We recently had the chance to connect with Samantha Klein and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Being an Aunt to my niece and nephew is one of the most special and happy chapters of my life. As much as I try to help guide them as they grow, they are constantly teaching me new things and keep me on my toes. I feel so lucky to be close and connected with them. They are my little besties!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve always had a creative streak and a witty sense of humor. At the heart of what I do is a simple goal: helping people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. I view makeup as the adult version of face paint —it can be undetectible and minimal, yet completely transformative. It doesn’t just change how someone looks, it changes how they carry themselves. And that, to me, is the real magic.
My career as a freelance makeup artist and hair stylist is anything but routine. One day I’m working in a TV network studio in a proper makeup/green room, the next I’m working on location in a remote area, sometimes in a makeup trailor, a shuttle van or out of the trunk of my car. Most jobs include working on a variety of TV, commercials, print, documentaries, music videos, corporate, red carpet and live events (such as the Oscar’s, Grammy’s, Emmy’s, ComicCon, Fashion Week), concerts and more.
In addition to performing makeup and hair, I’ve taken on beauty content creation which has led to partnering with beauty brands I love. As the industry evolves, so do I — not just to stay relevant, but to stay inspired.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
“When you think life isn’t fair or you’re having a hard day, just remember – there’s always someone who’s in a worse position or has it harder than you.” – Ray Klein (my dad)
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Believe and you WILL achieve.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Regarding my foundational views: simply, I do my best to be a kind human and treat others fair. However, the public version of me unfortunately depends on the work environment, which means being able to read the room and others energy. For example, if it’s a global live stream, red carpet event or tv show with high caliber celebs, CEOs or execs, I’m super serious and on top of my game. However, if it’s a more laid back and creative vibe, such as a fashion or creative beauty shoot, concert, music video, etc., you’ll find a chill, spunky, energetic side of me (which is the real, happy me). In short, I handle the pressure of high level jobs, but would rather be my artsy, quirky self. Other than that, yes, I keep it very real.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Slowing down and traveling more. Freelancing is a 24/7, on call business and it’s hard to disconnect.
