Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Laborin
Hi Bianca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
First and foremost I’d like to give all Grace and glory to God. My name is ‘Bianca Laborin’ a.k.a “Binky.” I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, CA. My beautiful Mother raised my two older brothers and I. I began writing poetry as soon as I could put sentences together. Eventually my poems turned into songs and I started sharing my work. I would rap battle different people via text message. I hosted freestyle battles in high school & eventually recorded my first record. After that I went on to earn three degrees, went on a 15- city tour, I’ve been considered for a Grammy, and hit the top 10 on the Latin charts as an independent artist not once but twice! .I have a passion for song-writing and performing. I truly have grown to love marketing and helping other creatives elevate their art. I truly enjoy helping others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha. Nothing is ever smooth. Sometimes things flow nicely, be grateful for those moments. Sometimes things are challenging, remain hopeful in those moments. I can think of a few challenges but really learning the ins and outs of the business. Being talented is one thing but knowing,& understanding the business side of things is something most look over! Finding a safe space to create as a female was one of the challenges I faced early on. I’m super grateful to have come across the people I have in my creative circle. I always feel safe and at home because of them. S/O to Kiki from the Hennessy Lounge, Davis Chris of DFD Music, & A.K down at the Purp Studio for that!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist of all trades. My favorite art to create is music. I enjoy writing and song-writing is my passion. I am known for my music. I’ve been on tour and on charts. I love performing my songs and helping others with their creative process as well. I don’t mind being in the spotlight or behind the scenes- I just want to create good art. I’m most proud that I took the risk to share my work. I’m an extremely private person and at times very shy. This has kept me silent in times where my voice needed to be heard. Writing has opened me up to being vulnerable. It’s allowed me to be honest about my feelings and I feel proud that I can sing them out loud and move forward through freedom of expression! We’re not so different you and I. Maybe I’m brave enough to admit that and that’s what sets me apart from others. I’m aware, blessed, and highly favored.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
There’s a huge shift in the music industry right now… I think it’s good for independent artists like myself. There’s a lot of voids. Meaning spots are open and a lot of our favorites aren’t creating at the moment. Feels like a lot of people took a pause so it’s time to play. I’m hopeful for positive change that benefit artists and their rights with their work.
