Daily Inspiration: Meet Amy Goldberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Goldberg

Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was one of those kids turned adult that remained curious. Always looking around to see what was going on. Watching to see what others were doing, how they were doing it, and what they loved about what it was that they were doing. I gravitated toward optimistic people. They didn’t just talk about ideas, they actioned them. And that was me. Once I knew what I wanted to do I didn’t hesitate. And so, my career has followed two distinct paths that kinda and eventually meld. The commonality was, creativity. As a creative entrepreneur and wellness warrior I created two successful companies, one in corporate wellness and the other in creative film/tv production. The production side of my life really came through osmosis. I learned very early on having come from a family of highly successful producers, writers, and directors that I too had the knack to develop and produce projects. Ultimately, for me it’s about collaboration in whatever I do. Today I am that same kid with eyes wide open looking around to see what’s going on and where I am able to contribute creatively.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
If you consider navigating through massive potholes, torrential downpours, unpaved paths, winding roads, and tons of obstacles in your way a smooth road, then yes. And yet, without struggles your successes would seem less amazing and rewarding. I’ve learned from every mistake, failure, poor decision I’ve made, and in turn made better ones as I went along. One thing’s for sure, I never waited until all conditions were perfect – if I had then I would have never gotten started. A lot of the struggles came at the beginning when I was needing to prove myself. No one was going to fund a huge project to a rookie right out of the gate, so I hitched my wagon to those that knew what they were doing and asked a ton of questions and then listened – really listened. These struggles shouldn’t discourage you to a point where you call it a day. You need to keep going if you really believe in what it is that you’re doing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder and CEO of Push Back Productions, a company created to create, with the understanding that sometimes you need to push back to push forward. I combined my skills and experiences as a producer, writer, entrepreneur, strategist, and yes, my influence as a health, fitness, and wellness trailblazer to enrich and enhance all aspects of the creative work that we, the team, produce.

Apart from film, television, start-ups, new initiatives, multi-sector work, we’ve even taken the plunge into creating and producing podcasts, because, ha, who doesn’t have a podcast these days. Including us! I’m really proud of the work we’ve been able to do. It’s not easy getting things off the ground, hence the reason we always have a fews things at various stages of development, as we never know which one is going to break first. It certainly makes things interesting.

What sets us apart from others is the diversity in the experiences that we’ve had. Personally, I feel very fortunate to have been able to transfer all that I’ve experienced, even my 2 1/2 year world travel so that I could innovate as creatively as I have. It wouldn’t have happened hadn’t I explored so many possibilities and opportunities in my life so far. And probably the reason why I have so much energy. I’m excited about things. I love creating. And creating can mean so many different things. I like that!

I am very aware that I need to consciously motivate myself, as being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. It can be very lonely. You learn very early on that everything changes, and often. There are so many moving parts. It’s unpredictable, and learning to remain level-headed certainly helps.

At the end of the day – or shall I say it starts with showing up. Showing up for yourself and others is the key to making things happen. As mentioned, I thrive on collaborations. Sharing ideas, gathering new resources, learning, exploring, and experiencing. I work with people who are self-led and have a healthy social awareness and a need to want to create. It doesn’t get much better than that!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Wow, too many shifts to mention. Things are changing on a dime. The way business is done, how we communicate, how we work, what’s expected. BIG shifts. I don’t have a crystal ball and yet if I were to give it my best guess – with more options for people, be it an audience, or whomever you’re catering to, no matter what – you need to stay nimble, flexible, continuously think creatively, and by that I mean look around – look at what other verticals are doing. You always hear it said that; “you should stay in your own lane,” – don’t – veer off, head onto a path less travelled, cross reference, and see what may come of it. No matter what – you need to care more about whomever you’re serving, servicing, working with, etc. I’ve seen a decline in customer-centric care and/or experiences, and I think it may get worse before it gets better. Be that beacon of light that doesn’t flicker or wane. Be quintessential.
