Conversations with Alisha Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Scott

Hi Alisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From the time I got my first point and shoot camera when I was about 15, I fell in love with capturing God’s beauty in all of his Creation. My mom and I grew tons of flowers and I’d constantly go out and try to get all the best angles, reflections of the flowers in the raindrops and stand for hours waiting to get just the right shot of the hummingbirds coming for the nectar. Growing up in the country, I had ample opportunity for photographing wildlife and farm life. I soon learned how to use long exposure and was so excited the first time I took a photo of a flowing creek in Glacier National Park and very quickly realized that waterfalls were my new favorite thing and still are. To this day, my ever patient dad will take me on new waterfall outings. After years as a hobbyist photographer, I started getting requests from friends to take their photos and one day as I was scrolling on Instagram I came across a newborn photography post and instantly got excited about trying that out. I adore babies and volunteer in my Church nursery to get to hold them. What better combo than getting to combine my passion for photography with newborns! I signed up for an in person, one on one workshop with the amazing Kathryn Barredo in Alberta, Canada who specializes in Newborn and family photography and in teaching of the safety of handling and posing of newborns. I currently have a studio setup for newborns and for other family, couples or maternity sessions I opt for outdoors. I know my love of nature plays into my style as a photographer and I am so grateful for that background.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth sailing starting a business. The hardest part for me has been learning the financial end of things and all the proper channels I have to go through to make it successful. I’m very thankful to have the support of family and friends who continually cheer me on.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Newborn photographer who also does families, couples, maternity, Etc.
I like to get to know families and hear their vision and what they’d like out of a session and incorporate things or elements that are meaningful to them. I am probably most proud of posing babies. They can be a bit of a challenge to work with, they are the boss 🙂 and nailing angles can be tricky, but it’s super rewarding when you get a gallery of beautiful images for the parents to ooh and ahh over!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Too many to pick, but I am truly blessed to have grown up with loving parents who raised me to love Jesus, took me to church, had evening family devotions and prayer. Across the valley there was one tree that stood way taller than the rest and my mom would always point to it and say, “stand up for what is right even if you’re the only one standing, just like that tree.”
One fun memory that stands out was my siblings and I fourwheeling in the snow while pulling a sled behind and trying to dump whoever was on it!
