Daily Inspiration: Meet Uptwn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Uptwn

Hi UPTWN, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are friends from the same neighborhood (Beechmont) that both had a love for music. Our other friend from the neighborhood, Young Los who was older was already producing music. We used to go to his house after school and listen to the music he was making. Inspired, we started making some of our own soon after. Just too fast forward some, after a visit to London we started to focus more on the House music scene. After seeing a good reception to our first House music releases, we decided to move to London 2016-2017 where we created almost all of the records we have on streaming platforms today. We picked up DJ’n in 2018 and landed our first residency at large venue in Virginia called Boathouse.

We relocated to Los Angeles late 2019 and started releasing mixes on Youtube in 2023. Our 3rd video release went viral and caught the attention of some major platforms. That propelled our name and brand too much more attention and notoriety.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. The pandemic was our biggest challenge because dance music is based on being “outside” and human interaction. All things that were taken away during Covid. During those times it was a bit tougher to stay motivated but we never stopped and always had a vision.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a House music DJ/Producer duo called UPTWN (Cal and Stefan). Originally, we were known for the records we produced some of which have hit streaming charts or play-listed by major labels and brands like Coca-Cola. We are proud of all of our accomplishments but the way our YouTube videos are connecting with people right now is really amazing. YouTube is something that usually is a very long journey, it takes years and 40/50+ videos just to get even a following of 1,000 subscribers if you’re lucky. For us to be nearing 20K subs in just our first 6 videos, we are very appreciative it seems like people are really enjoying them. And what sets us apart the most? Probably just the ear we have that’s been curated for years with so many different influences and genres of music.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Definitely have to credit our family for always supporting us and being behind us. None of this is possible without them.
