Meet Dan Hill and Kody Frederick of The Dan & Kody Podcast in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Hill and Kody Frederick.

Dan and Kody, please share your story with us.
Our works crossed paths when we’re tasked to clear out a warehouse full of movie memorabilia. We were instant friends and would always play off of each other and come off with insane conversations. We come from very different backgrounds. Kody is from small town Idaho and I am from Washington DC. Both of us moved to Los Angeles for a fresh start! Towards the end of the job after a few weeks we constantly went back and forth about starting a podcast. Neither of wanting to be the one to stand in the way of starting the podcast, we both would continuously agree that we should. It started out as a conversation of us really getting to know each other, and quickly turned into a podcast about daily LA life, pop culture and current events. Each and every week we break down the things in our life that we want to talk about making sure that the other person has no idea what the topics will be before we begin recording. Through the power of social media, we’ve been able to grow a following organically over two years and we now have a few thousand downloads every month!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were times where Kody wanted to stop recording. There are definitely weeks that go by that neither of us are up for recording, but we continue to produce the content and share our opinions on everything. When starting a podcast, we never thought that there would be this much social media involved. Keeping up with posting episodes on Facebook, twitter and Instagram is a job in itself. Maintaining podcast relationships, and posting regularly in podcast groups is often challenging. Sorting through clickbait for topics every week has been a tough task at time, but we always manage to find the funny within any story!

The Dan & Kody Podcast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We’re now known for bringing a variety of different subjects to the table every week and making them funny. We specialize in edutainment! I’m most proud of our consistency to keep going, and continuing to produce funny episodes for our fans. What sets us apart from other podcasts is that we’re not tied down to any sort of genre. We offer knowledge on every single subject and we’re not afraid to discuss things that we’re not familiar with. If we think it’s interesting, we bring it to the table. Kody has an improv comedy background and Dan has an announcing and performing background.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We recently hit our 100th episode before the new year. We did a live podcast from Venice beach with was very different and fun where we spoke to passerby’s. We’ve also interviewed the co-creator of Colony on USA network Ryan Condal. We’ve interviewed Jonathan Kesselman who is the writer and director of The Hebrew Hammer and Jimmy Vestvood. We’ve also had on the author of Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy, Brandon Alinger.
