Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Carter

Dani, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It has been my dream to own a dog training/walking business for about 15 years.
I was already 13 years into my teaching career so the thought of leaving that stability to venture out on my own was way too terrifying for me. I’d been training dogs as a small side gig the entire time and I just figured it would stay a side gig.
Fast forward to 2019. I was in a horrific car accident, was bedridden for a year, Two months in, the entire world was housebound due to the pandemic.
Because I couldn’t do much, I started to learn to paint. And OF COURSE my subjects were dogs.
I was a horrible painter. I’d never really tried but what else was there for me to do during that crazy time? I shocked myself and got pretty good at painting pet portraits and started taking commissions!
As the world (and my broken body) was starting to get back to “normal” I decided this was my chance. This was the perfect opportunity to start the business I’ve dreamed of.
I thought “If I can learn to paint well enough to get paid for my work even thought I’d never really painted before, I can definitely start my dream business!!”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m STILL terrified. But I’ve learned that’s not a bad thing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest struggle was recovering from my car accident and getting back to being able to walk!
That was a road I never expected to have to go down but I got through it!!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned to work through scary, terrifying new territory. And instead of thinking owning my own business was just a pipe dream because I was scared to make the leap from stability to the unknown, my mindset needs to be FOLLOW MY DREAM NO MATTER HOW INTIMIDATING THEY MAY BE. Don’t settle for mediocre when your dreams are anything but!!!!

Pricing:

• Initial 90 minute training consult/assessment/first session is $200
• One to one 60 minute private training sessions after the initial consult are $150
• Virtual training sessions are $150/hour
• Board and Train is $1600/week (3 week minimum). Upon completion of a board and train, one on one training sessions are free for life!
