Meet John Marshall of JM International Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Marshall.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been in the fashion business for 30+ years, went to Otis/Parsons, and worked for various contemporary clothing companies, such as Carol Little, Francine Browner, etc. as a fabric/trim buyer before my textiles sales career began in 1999.

I was given the position of West Coast Sales Manager for Solstiss / Bucol where I was employed for several years before opening my sales agency, JM International Group Inc in 2009.

I have worked and continue to work with many diverse brands on the West Coast such as Monique Lhuillier, Rodarte, St John Knits, Seven for All Mankind, Levi’s, Karen Kane, Black Halo, August Getty, Bob Mackie, Nolan Miller, etc…

I represent several diverse European mills such as Malhia Kent, Euromaglia, Bella Tela, Vema, Confetti – with an array of products, knits, novelties, embroideries, prints, etc.,

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has actually been very well for me thus far, as the business continues to grow every year with many loyal clients and new clients every season.

This year; however, has been challenging with many ongoing changes/closures with small boutique and brands in the clothing industry.

JM International Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is a textile agency representing several high-end European textile brands catering to several markets, couture, contemporary, swim, shoes, bags, etc.

I am the owner/sales representative of 11 European mills for West Coast clientele.

I am proud of my ongoing relationships with several designers and meeting / sustaining new accounts every year.

I am also proud that I was / still able to begin and maintain this business on my own and see the growths through-out these years…

I love textiles and be able to represent beautiful high end products and work with interior designers as Kelly Wearstler, costume designers such as Colleen Atwood on several of her previous movies as well as my ongoing and personal relationships with Monique Lhuillier and Rodarte sisters for 10 + years is a personal blessing.

I am pleased with my reputation within the industry for many years and to continue to do what I love daily and also afford me to sustain my passion of travel, is nothing but the best.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The day I decided to open my current company.

To still wake every day, love what I do, meet new designers and educate them on the products and see their dreams become a reality as well…

To realize that with the power of social media and best invention of the “internet” that I can travel the world and still work from / enjoy both worlds…
