Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Porter.
Hi Paul, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was blessed to be exposed to opportunities that were not being presented to my community. God has always had an influence in my life, so I understood that I to give the same exposure to the next generation. I grew up in the South Central Crenshaw district in the 90s when gang banging was at its highest. My mom was just getting into the real estate industry, and she tagged me along everywhere. She wrote me scripts to go pass out her cards to people; I was like 9-11 years old. But she also placed her real estate license under black real estate brokers, which led me to have all types of conversations that I couldn’t have with anyone else: business questions. With all of that, I’ve gained so much confidence in myself to do anything.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely was not the easiest process. Had my first kid at 18. Not understanding life, let alone business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My main company is a non-profit, “Avenues of Life,” which focuses on youth development.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk taking.
If you do to take risk, you will never know your full potential. My whole career, I’ve had to take risks.
