Rising Stars: Meet Marantz Moon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marantz Moon.

Marantz Moon

Hi Marantz, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In January 2020, I left Chicago, IL, for the pursuit of happiness and a dream in California. The pandemic unfolded so my reaction was to double down on my goals to establish myself as an artist and build an organic community.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggles were and have been the politics of the art world and understanding what path feels true to me and what my art represents.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a practicing visual artist working with acrylic on canvas, found objects, and mixed medium resin sculpture.

I work as a fine art handler as a day job to balance out financial needs.

I’m known for being an artist, hip hop musician and co-founder of the DMST Atelier an artist run, studio, gallery and social practice space based DTLA.

I am most proud of the work that me and Frannie Hemmelgarn (the other founder of DMST) have done in the neighborhood. We bridged a lot of gaps and brought a lot of folks together through art & food.

I would say I’m just like everyone else, but I consistently follow my heart and lean into journey no matter how many setbacks.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Come by the studio for a visit, reach out via email or Instagram.

You can support me by directly via buying art or honestly by being a kind human to others and following your own dreams!
