Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos “Carlitos” Solórzano.
Hi Carlos “Carlitos”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First and foremost, thanks for this opportunity. It all started with people telling my parents to put my sister Sofi and I into acting and modeling. We were already “producing” a lot of shows for our family in our living room or bedroom. Sometimes, we would even create props and costumes and invite our friends to be part of our shows/plays. A talent agent came to town. My mom took my sister and me to the open call, and my sister was picked up right away. Something happened, and that was the end of that. Years later, the same agent had another open call. My sister was offered representation right away, and I was asked if I could really cry on cue and so I showed them. After that, I too was offered representation.
My very first audition was for a toothpaste commercial. I didn’t book the commercial, but it was lots of fun! Then I received an audition about Cheetos and booked the role of Young Lucky Montanez in Eva Longoria’s directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot! My mom and I traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for filming. When I was on set, I was so nervous since it was my first project, but it was so much fun! From that point on, I’ve been working on shorts (Un Dia Mas, Un dia menos, The Kill Floor which received Academy Award consideration among many other awards & Ravine). I traveled abroad to film the psychological thriller The Black Demon (2023), starring alongside Josh Lucas and Fernanda Urrejola, and starred in Goodrich (Michael Keaton, Michael Urie, Mila Kunis), the recently released romcom Holiday in the Vineyards, where I play a lead role opposite Josh Swickard. Most recently, I wrapped a project based on a true story and directed by Oscar-winning William Goldenberg (in production).
On the small screen, I was part of Nick Jr’s. Noggin Yoga Friends, guest-starred on Fox’s The Resident and Mayans MC (FX), and had a costar role in Colin Farrell’s series Sugar (Apple TV+). For the last year, I’ve been a series regular on an Untitled Disney animation project. I can’t wait for my younger cousins to see the project once it’s released!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was hard at first, especially the self-tapes or not being selected for a role I really could see myself playing, but now It’s been pretty smooth. I do my best and move on. One thing that makes me a bit sad is when I miss school events that I really want to go to, but those are the sacrifices we have to make sometimes for acting. I love to be part of school activities (for example, Drama Club and Odyssey of the Mind) and like to play baseball. We try to keep a balance so I can do what I love and enjoy being a kid.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a bilingual (English/Spanish), multicultural (US-born with Mexican and Costa Rican roots) actor. I am known for my creativity (I love to draw and make props) and thinking outside the box. I am also your typical 11-year-old who likes to play baseball, run around, hang out with family and friends, play in my backyard, and listen to Elvis all day long.
I am a purple belt with one black stripe in Karate (Shito Ryu karate) and have taken intro ASL classes.
I am most proud of being a kind and versatile actor at this age and helping to bring stories to life. I memorized things easily; in fact, my sister and I would memorize movies, books, and plays at a very young age. We knew every line of our favorite movies.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
You have to be safe for yourself and others.
Some projects were stopped, others kept on, but safety was always first.
We got to spend time together as a family, playing in the back yard, but I also realized how much I miss my friends and being at school. I love to socialize 🙂
