Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Yorke.
Hi Shane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2016, I embarked on an incredible journey of both personal and creative growth by starting a blog called CaliDOMESTIQUE. My initial motivation was simple: I wanted a way to share my bicycle ride adventures with my parents, who were living in Canada, while I explored the beautiful landscapes of California. Little did I know that this humble blog would evolve into something much more profound.
CaliDOMESTIQUE began as a platform to document my two-wheeled explorations, from scenic rides along the Pacific coastline to challenging ascents through the rugged mountains. Through words and photos, I aimed to bridge the geographical gap between my family and me, allowing them to follow my journey with every pedal stroke and scenic vista.
As time passed, the blog garnered an unexpected following of fellow cycling enthusiasts and adventure seekers. People from around the world were drawn to the stories, tips, and insights I shared about my rides. It became a community of like-minded individuals who shared a passion for exploration and the freedom of the open road.
But my vision for CaliDOMESTIQUE didn’t stop there. In 2020, it transformed into a review multimedia channel. Alongside ride stories, I started sharing in-depth reviews of cycling gear, tips for maintaining road bikes, and interviews with prominent figures in the cycling world. This expansion allowed me to connect with an even broader audience, catering to the needs of both seasoned riders and newcomers to the sport.
Then, in a remarkable turn of events, 2023 marked a new chapter for CaliDOMESTIQUE. I launched a coffee roasting company, combining my love for cycling with a newfound passion for coffee. The venture, known as “CaliDomestiqueRoasters.com,” not only delivers exceptional coffee to aficionados but also contributes to a meaningful cause. We pledge to donate 10% of our proceeds to purchasing bikes for kids in need, ensuring that the spirit of adventure and exploration is passed on to the next generation.
CaliDOMESTIQUE has transformed from a simple blog into a multifaceted platform that embodies the values of adventure, community, and giving back. It’s a testament to how a personal journey can evolve into something much greater, connecting people and making a positive impact in the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, it’s been a pretty seamless journey. Looking back, I wish I could have invested way more time in cultivating the brand, but I’m finally in a position to see my dream become reality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I moved to the Los Angeles area in 2014, and unlike many people do, I didn’t relocate to become a famous actor, simply the best dad I could be. I was living in Canada while my LA-based girlfriend was pregnant. I put my life on hold and made the life-changing move to relocate to California. My family and I are avid cyclists, and what started as a simple blog to share our rides and keep my Canadian parents appraised of our adventures it grew into something so much more. And its continued growth has been simply amazing to watch. From a simple blog to a Dripshipper coffee company, my little blog titled CaliDOMESTIQUE now uses 10% of our coffee proceeds to partner with and purchase bicycles for kids without.
What matters most to you? Why?
I think being honest and true matters most to me. I’ve never strayed from my main goal and that’s to help people. I’ve been involved in some aspects of the cycling community and review safety products that help others. I recently completed in a 63-mile ride to bring awareness to cycling and motorists. “Finish the Ride” is based upon cyclists that may not have gotten the chance to return home to their loved ones. They use “SAFE”, which stands for “Streets Are For Everyone”. Being able to bring various products to the cycling community matters most to me.
