Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelsie Turner and Sydney Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsie Turner and Sydney Wright.

Hi Kelsie and Sydney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Sydney and I have been friends since childhood—kindergarten actually. One night during the pandemic, over a glass of wine, we gushed over our mutual passion for interior styling and design. At the time, Sydney was a full-time attorney, and I worked in TV and film production. We asked ourselves: could we turn our love for design into a business? Right then and there, we planted the seeds for MIXD Design. We began by helping out friends for free, building our infrastructure, and learning the ins and outs of design planning (mood boards, renderings, etc.), sourcing, and project management. With a few successful projects under our belt, we started sharing our work on Instagram, which has led to being featured by several major home goods brands. As we grew, we took on larger projects, fine-tuned our style, and even ventured into construction work, constantly challenging ourselves and learning along the way. With dedication and reliance on our amazing network, we eventually created a full-time interior design business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Just like any small business, we’ve faced our fair share of bumps along the way. But with each challenge or misstep, we’ve learned valuable lessons that helped us improve our business model and creative processes. It can be tricky finding the balance between focusing on the operational/administrative demands of running a business and ensuring that those demands don’t impede the passion and creativity that goes into designing a space. Over time I think we’ve found an organic and integrative workflow that optimizes both administrative efficiency and creative value. Overall, we consider ourselves fortunate to have an incredible support system, mentors who guide us, and wonderful clients who have not only supported us but also referred us to others. Their encouragement has been invaluable to our growth and success.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
From the very beginning, we’ve been driven by the desire to transform spaces through innovative styling and design for all budgets. This mentality has allowed us to form connections with a diverse range of clients, each with their own unique tastes and needs. We believe that the true magic of interior styling lies #inthemix – where different elements harmonize to create spaces that tell distinctive stories. Our dedication to redefining traditional aesthetics makes us a go-to destination for those seeking fresh, unconventional, and inspiring design solutions.

Collaboration is at the heart of our process, and it’s what truly sets us apart. We offer a range of services—from hourly consulting to full-scale design—which allows each client to tailor their experience with us to best suit their needs. Rather than imposing a narrow design aesthetic on every project, we make it a priority to understand and translate each client’s vision, functional goals, and personal style. This ensures that each project becomes a genuine reflection of our client’s essence while also incorporating our signature point of view.

We’re all about making connections, collaborating, and embracing creativity! We love working with fellow creatives and finding exciting ways to blend different artistic mediums into our projects. Whether it’s teaming up with artists, photographers, artisans, builders, etc., were always open to forming new artistic intersections and eager to learn from others!
