Meet Ryan Crean of Unplugged Beauty in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Crean.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
5 years ago, I came up with the idea of “Unplugged”, the Cordless Hair straightener. I have been a stylist going on 13 years and am always doing photo shoots and styling hair on the go!

Having something cordless just made sense. After coming up with the idea I started researching factories that could build my concept. After years of going back and forth with factories and testing straighteners, Unplugged was born.

But, after creating the perfect prototype I had to fund the straightener. I did a couple attempts at Kick-starter with no luck. However I kept working and saving money, and was able to fund the first shipment.

Once Unplugged was here I was able to get my first order with Sharper Image/Brookstone! It has been a long process but I never stopped and will continue to keep working on making Unplugged a success!

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road! Trying to do kick-starter and having it fail two times definitely got me down, but I did not give up. Every part of the process has had it’s hard times, and I know it still will not be easy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Unplugged Beauty – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have been a licensed Cosmetologist since 2005. While still in school, I got certified and became a Hair Extension specialist in 2004. I became obsessed with Hair Extensions and started importing and selling Hair. From there I decided to start my own Hair Extension company, Pretty 2 Gorgeous since 2012. I created a website Pretty2Gorgeous.com and sell online.

Since I was importing hair, I developed relationships with factories for hair tools, from there I was introduced to a factory to produce “Unplugged”. After creating Unplugged I have expanded my brand tremendously.Being the ONLY Cordless USB charged Straightener out there is AMAZING!! I am very proud of how far I have come being only one person! It has been hard but rewarding seeing everything come together and sky’s is the limit!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about LA! I love Palm trees, amazing weather, beaches. You can always find something fun to do here. I will say though I don’t like how restaurants close early and of course the traffic.
