Today we’d like to introduce you to Naira Agvani Zakaryan.
Hi Naira Agvani, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I took on acting professionally a little over six years ago. Before that, I worked for Financial Services and I have a degree in Criminal Justice. How I got here? I don’t know. And, honestly, it doesn’t matter. I am happy to be here and finally to be doing what I was always drawn to.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The industry is such a mystery and not because we make it that way but because any art form is mysterious, abstract, and difficult to quantify. I used to think there was a perfect time for this, for that. And, so I waited; putting things off till the perfect time came. Then after much struggle, I realized that the perfect time is now or never! Action is what matters!! The breakthrough came last year – you don’t wait for anything or anyone; you dive into it as if your life depends on it (which to an extent it does) and become one with it. “Smooth” can be somewhat vaguely defined here. I don’t think it can actually be applied. I think I am smoothly progressing / that’s what I think of my journey through this beautiful and uninhabited path that is unique to each!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Last year I dedicated myself to theater and learned a whole lot about trusting myself on stage (as in most cases, you are not given another chance, lol), getting out of my own way, but most importantly, learning who I truly am as an artist, as a human, and as a woman. What it is that I am fighting for! We artists are warriors and messengers and I feel responsible for the choices I make and the standards I set not only for myself but also for those around me. It was the most valuable year of my professional career. I am set free and even the sky isn’t the limit now!
I am proud of everything I’ve done – some good, some even bad – nonetheless, I give my all every single time! And, I do not cease to learn, to ask questions, to seek answers, and to defy boundaries.
What sets me apart from everyone else is ME with all my flaws and imperfections!
I am most known for the “Gate to Heaven” film that had a sold-out run at AMC Theaters nationwide last year and “The Impeccable” that brought me the Best Supporting actress win. You could also see me in various stage productions such as “Hundred Years of Solitude”, “Molière: 400 Years Celebration”, and most recently as Niura in the “Yama the Hellhole” by A. Kuprin.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Constantin Stanislavsk’s quote comes to mind – “Love art in yourself, and not yourself in art.” – and you’ll be just fine! It’s a feeling of fulfillment beyond money, success, and the rest of the noise. It’ll help you find the way!!
