Conversations with Kiara Madrigal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Madrigal.

Kiara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been into photography, from middle school through high school and even after, I was the friend who always brought her camera along. I loved snapping away and having some sort of memory from that moment. I stopped for some time but in 2019 when my husband and I were going to take our honeymoon I went and bought a new camera and once covid hit the following year I decided to learn the editing process and the business side of photography. It wasn’t until the end of 2020 and the start of 2021 when I decided to practice on friends and family, from there on it just picked up and I haven’t stopped.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At the start of my journey, it was a little slow, I was trying to get my name out there but I wasn’t sure where to begin. I created my Instagram to separate myself from my personal Instagram this way I could focus on building my audience around photography. It definitely was hard seeing other photographer’s work but I knew I couldn’t compare myself to them since I was barely starting out and most of these photographers were years in. However, I am thankful for how far I have gotten in my photography journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in lifestyle and portrait photography. I love capturing couples, mothers to be and families. My next goal is to achieve wedding photography. One of the greatest things about being a photographer is that every photographer’s work is different. There is a style for every person out there. I think I can describe my work being on the warm side. I enjoy me a good sunset session! Overall I am just proud at how far I have come, I can’t wait to see where my work takes me.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest supporter has to be my husband. From the moment I said I wanted to pursue photography he was on board. He is such a huge help when I have a session, he’ll tag along just in case I need him for anything and he’s also my biggest hype-man. My family has also cheered me on from the very beginning. Last year I decided to invest on a mentor and I chose @arlynereneephotography, besides being a friend she has been an amazing mentor from the very beginning. She is super big when it comes to community over competition and thats the type of person I choose to follow versus seeing me as a competitor.
