Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Kislov.
Hi Alex, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story starts in a small town called Beer Sheba in Israel, where I was born. I immigrated to the United States in 2002 as a refugee after the second intifada straight to Chicago where I have lived for nearly 20 years now. I started to dabble in electronic music around the age of 8 and Djed my first party in high school when I was 14.
DJing and production was how I paid for college and is also now a significant part of my lifestyle. I do something Music related nearly every day. Currently, I work as a community manager for North America at Moishe House (a nonprofit company) and keeping up with a hectic performing schedule.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think I’ve met anybody in my line of work that’s made significant strides and will tell you that they’ve had a smooth ride. This type of work, you really have to love it with all of your being in order to get through all the hoops and steps. It’s emotionally exhausting and physically enduring late nights and lots of socialization with little sleep. Sure, there is the fun part that everybody gets to see on social media but it’s a very competitive line of work and requires full financial, mental and physical dedication if you want to be at the top. Like a sport almost.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize as a producer and DJ. I have released multiple singles on labels all over the world and have been supported by industry trendsetters and heavyweights. I’d say my most known work today is my remix to the house of the rising Sun, which was used by Battlefield IV video game. I’ve also self-released two music videos, which were massive passion projects. What I’m most proud of is my resilience and years of hitting the same point and never wavering. It’s easy to just give up in this business, but I stuck through the thick and thin of it to come out the other side.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
My entire career is one big risk; lol there’s no guarantees in this work. Only the work you’ve done to have to fall back on.
When I think of this question, I look at my life as somebody who didn’t have any odds in his favor, and I was once just a boy with a dream of doing this for a living. Like how many of us start. The only difference is that I took the risk on myself and I am blessed to say I have never looked back since.
