Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodrigo Bunton.
Hi Rodrigo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Rodrigo Bunton Navarrete, a designer in the process of making a dream into a reality. Originally from El Salvador, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion design at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. I majored in Fashion Design with an Associate of Arts Degree, followed by a degree in Advanced Fashion Design. At the culmination of the program, I presented my first collection during FIDM’s DEBUT Fashion Show Since then, I have been invited to present my collection at various venues in Los Angeles, Albuquerque, and Palm Springs. I started working with private clients and getting to know my customer as they approach me to create beautiful and customized pieces for that special moment in their life. Now I have created a tailored clothing for celebrities and important award shows. Join me in this journey and know that every piece you acquire is a piece of my heart and art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge I had was leaving El Salvador to start a new life to pursue my dreams, it wasn’t easy it has been a crazy road. Learning a new culture, a new language, starting a new school, the process to get the paperwork, etc., after graduating, I didn’t know how to make it happen, I remember asking myself, How am I getting clients? Where should I start? Lucky for me, I have an amazing husband that supported me throughout the whole process and gave me the strength not to give up. Friends that referred me and little by little, I started to create a booking.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a fashion designer, a proud Latino who creates art and always tried to innovate with the fabrics and silhouettes, I make sure that the client is always happy with the garment I create for them or the tailor I do for them. Hand beading is a big part of my aesthetic but everything that shines and has movement is what I love the most. Lately, I being inspired by the art of Chain stitching which allows me to create patterns and figures in a wide array of colors and textures.
I design for people who are outside the norm and do not necessarily conform to the H&M Aesthetic
my proudest moment is working with the entrainment industry which is very demanding yet fashion-forward
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The fashion industry is changing constantly, and sometimes is very unpredictable but at the same time you know where is going, technology is the catalyst for innovation and is dictating trends and changes, so I think technology is the best tool we have to create beautiful and interesting garments.
