Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Mogaddam.
Hi Chris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a teenager and younger adult, I was known to be a resourceful hard-worker. I understood both marketing and sales quite well.
I was an entrepreneur from a young age, but also worked in sales off and on through most of my twenties. In sales, you have salesmen and you have closers. Most of my bosses had identified this early on and utilized me as the team closer. In my mid-twenties I got burnt out in sales because I wasn’t selling anything meaningful. It dawned on me that if I pursued a path in the fitness industry; with my work ethic, marketing and sales experience. I would have a shot at having a rewarding high-level career.
I started managing health clubs and immediately moved up to being a General Manager where I hit record numbers in my district. I was recruited by Velocity Sports Club in Brentwood where I took over as managing partner. I gained much experience managing and building that business in a competitive top-tier fitness market.
From average people to professional athletes, we had countless high-end clients and many of the industry’s top professionals under our roof. After learning various training styles from master coaches and exceptionally seasoned trainers, I became a highly experienced master coach and programmer. I pursued building a private training business as I consulted for other fitness gyms and brands. In 2014/2015 before Walberg got involved; Rob Deutsch approached me to help bring his Global fitness studio circuit training brand (functional 45) to the west coast. As their Master licensee of CA, I agreed to help bring them to the west coast and help them expand in the US market
In 2018 I created Double Ops! A Training and Recovery Brand. We specialize in strength and corrective training and we are known for the results we help produce. Double Ops is what I am most known for, as I have now owned and operated the brand for five years. We have 3 locations. Santa Monica, Encino and our most recent Newport Mesa HQ location. We are now gearing up for an expansion here on the West Coast.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t easy financing the first studio and creating the brand and infrastructure by myself with no help whatsoever. Luckily, I did have support from countless amazing and well-known fitness professionals that I had great relationships with. Many whom I mentored and more who acknowledged my programming experience and wanted to be a part of what they knew would be top tier. Because I had so many fitness professionals join as members, it helped create the hype for the brand. For 3 years I worked 24/7 under my own brand doing what I loved. Then on March 10th of 2020, during our best few months of our 3rd year, it all came to a halt. Like many other businesses during this time, we struggled to stay alive. I had to become an ongoing fundraiser for a while there. Now that 2023 is here, business is on a solid upward swing as we gear up to push our expansion.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
From Olympic and professional athletes to regular fitness enthusiasts, I worked with all types of people over the years. I really learned so much about what is most effective and optimal versus what might be a shortcut with repercussions. I didn’t want a system that had treads in a small space because treads are debilitating for the body and can create many problems. I’m a corrective trainer so that’s the last thing I would ever do to my clients. I’m an expert at helping people obtain noticeable results while making them feel like they are a part of something they are proud of. I created Double Ops because when you’re taking part in an intense training system, it’s necessary to have effective recovery options. That is what makes us different. We fix and build our clients up through both proper training and state of the art recovery. I’m mostly proud of how we can hit targets for people ten times out of ten.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe in my ability to connect with, attract and recruit good people. I can see the strengths in others and I push them to grow outside of their comfort zone. For me investing in my Coaches, clients and supporters is something that I focus on. Building my interpersonal relationships is vital for me to thrive in business. Those are some of the main qualities help me find success in building my teams. I’ve been told by many of my peers and mentors that my drive and ability to be a transformational leader and my charisma creates a hype and excitement for new people that I meet, my members and clients. That is what helps me build my studios with such solid and awesome Coaches, Members and regulars.
