Check Out Lotus La Loba’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lotus La Loba.

Hi Lotus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always find it really interesting pinpointing where I started on my Wellness journey. I feel a very pivotal point of my journey was being diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis at 19. It was the first time that I could not ignore my body. I spent the majority of my life overachieving. I often talk about the story my mother told me before I started kindergarten. She told me that as a Black girl, I was the last on the social totem pole and that I would have to work three times as hard just to be witnessed. So I spent all of my time and energy making sure that I did the most. Because being seen was deeply important to me even as a child. Those diagnoses really made me a witness to the damage I was doing to myself physically, mentally, spiritually, energetically and emotionally.

However, there’s Beauty in everything. I became aware of the many different ways that our body can communicate with us, that our emotions guide us and how energy is truly everything. From that moment on I continued to recommit to my well-being. As I gained more awareness and progressed through the skills, techniques and tools that I was acquiring, I intuitively started refining and creating. I shared as much of the process as possible and built a really beautiful Community from it.

Wellness became my lifestyle and I found so many ways to share this lifestyle through podcasting, teaching, content creation and public speaking.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Here’s the thing, I’m really conscious about not pushing a ‘struggle to success’ narrative. One because I feel it’s extremely dangerous especially for Black and brown communities. We tend to DO so much just to be seen in society and we don’t realize we are overworking ourselves and exhausting our spirits. Though I am definitely an OG to the soft life movement, and I really do believe that ease is a birthright – I don’t disregard the fact that sometimes shit gets weird and really uncomfortable as we begin to just BE.

I have found that the contrast I experienced on my journey really helps me to get clear on the message that I’m here to share. One of them being that it is crucial to everyone’s well-being that you begin to be Self-first unapologetically. This has nothing to do with being selfish (where you feel like you have to take back time and energy from people you willingly gave it to) this is about the active practice of knowing your worth. When we are taking care of ourselves first and we are feeling satisfied in our lives, we are able to do and be so much more for those we love and the communities that we are in.

Experiencing so much heartache, grief and sorrow in the earlier part of my life really opened my curiosity to explore the other side of the spectrum. What would it be like to have more peace, joy and fun in my life? Who would I be and what could I do if I was able to root myself in love? From being homeless to being in a violent domestic relationship, to experiencing extreme poverty mindsets, mental health diagnoses, being diagnosed with incurable diseases – I not only became resilient but really compassionate. The empathy I’m able to access because of my many first-hand traumatic experiences led me straight to the topics I study. Experiencing trauma to such a degree invited the opportunity to see if I could transmute it, maybe even find some pleasure in the process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m really lucky to sustain my livelihood from holding space for Black women. I currently specialize in EFT, Human Design & trauma-informed approaches. I made a name making EFT accessible and relatable for Black bodies. My content creation stems around topics that deeply affect and influence us. My background ranges from happiness coaching, herbalism, aromatherapy, energy healing/reiki to MCBT, NLP, Hypnotherapy and guided meditation facilitation (I had ALOT of downtime during the pandemic!). And I am currently enrolled in school to refine my studies in somatics and neuroplasticity.

There are a few aspects of my practice that set me apart. My foundation is in leadership, it influences how I teach and hold space. I’ve been fortunate enough to be recognized and awarded for my leadership and service over the past 15+ years. I am also a trained educator which helps me create a digestible curriculum around esoteric topics (like energy psychology or Neuroscience) for my students to easily integrate into their wellness journeys. Then there’s my love for storytelling which led me to create my podcast LobaLand. I share insights and techniques that help call in a softer, sweeter and more satisfying life. We reached top 5% globally for wellness in 2022 on Spotify! Most importantly, my work is centered in and around Blackness. Black culture deserves to be nourished and celebrated.

Every bit helps me to curate spaces for my community to explore their energy and express their genius with ease. I’m really proud that my life encourages me to actively practice what I preach. I love how real and kind my communities are too! I get to engage with incredibly dynamic beings. I am currently doing 1:1 energy and mindset mapping sessions (Lotus Living) to help clear energy blocks and sustain success in life. I also just released my first digital product called the Lotus Life Deck! It’s a digital vision board experience where you are guided in meditation, journaling & eft tapping to manifest the life of your dreams. I even host quarterly meetups so you can refresh your deck and share it with others – it’s so much fun!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned so many interesting and important lessons! One that jumps out at me right now is the power and slowing down and checking in. There was so much time for me to reintroduce myself to the life that I was living. I realized I was moving so fast I wasn’t able to savor what I created. Slowing down allowed me to reevaluate my relationships to spirit, my loved ones and to myself. I couldn’t run from the discomfort. The pandemic gave me the opportunity to practice being brave and having authority over what I am experiencing.

The second lesson that I want to highlight is the importance of having a spiritual or energetic practice. I lost a lot of family because of that crisis and it led me towards strengthening my relationship with Source. The truth is it doesn’t matter what you identify it as – God, Yewah, The Universe, Allah – it truly all stems in knowing that there is something bigger than you. Ultimately it’s Love. Love is so important for you to become intimate with. It is as delicate as it is resilient and it provides so much healing if you allow it to. My spiritual practice help me to endure the grief that I was experiencing and it reminded me that I had resources and a community that would help me when I felt like I couldn’t help myself. In the times we live in anyone can benefit from that and everyone deserves too.
