Life & Work with Sabrina Feliciano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Feliciano.

Sabrina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a licensed cosmetologist and esthetician and have been a part of this emergent industry for about ten years. I grew up struggling with psoriasis, an autoimmune skin disorder, which caused me a lot of insecurity. The doctors I sought for a cure did not empathize with my physical and emotional struggles. For years, I endured weekly treatments of harsh medications that caused me to feel sick in other ways. I experimented with different products, but nothing seemed to work.

After years of disappointment, I decided to take control of my skin. I studied and researched skin functions and consulted with specialists in the industry. Finally, I determined the trigger of my psoriasis flare-ups, and for the first time, I felt beautiful in my skin. At that moment, I decided I wanted to give others that feeling. I became inspired to make skincare my career. I take pride in educating and instilling confidence in my clients as we work to cure their skincare woes.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As any entrepreneur knows, turning your passion into a career takes a lot of work. I had always dreamed of owning my own business, but I quickly let fear and uncertainty get in the way. I knew that to take the plunge, I needed to let go of a job that gave me some level of financial security, but diving into the unknown was terrifying.

Like many others, I was laid off from my job when the pandemic hit. I entered what can only be described as survival mode. During my time in lockdown, I had time to reflect on how I wanted to move forward and what path would bring me in total alignment with my passions. I decided to listen to my intuition and take my lay-off as a sign that it was time to propel my dreams forward and open a business. The timing was precarious since the beauty industry was on total lockdown after not being deemed essential, but I knew I wanted to trust the process and take a leap of faith.

The struggles of becoming a business owner have pushed me to become what I am today. I opted to use whatever savings I had instead of seeking a loan, investor, etc., deciding that as long as I could pay for my rent and bills with my income, I would consider my business a success. I started from level zero, building my clientele all over again. I feel very blessed to be celebrating Skin Pretty’s second anniversary in May.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own Skin Pretty Los Angeles in Burbank, California, a skincare studio offering clinical facials and innovative treatments for aging, pigmentation, and acne, among other concerns. Each guest experiences the latest skin health therapies in a relaxing and private spa-like environment.

We specialize in facial customization and offer unique add-ons, like microdermabrasion, microcurrent, oxygen infusion treatment, hydro-jelly masks, dermaplaning, and light therapies, catered to each individual’s skin journey. Each service comes with a personalized skin care assessment, hand-picked treatment plan, and education. I don’t hold skincare information hostage. I teach my guests healthy skincare habits they can incorporate into their daily routine long after leaving the studio.

The relationships I form with my clients set Skin Pretty LA apart from other studios. I value the time they devote to improving their skin in my studio, and I empathize with their journey on a very personal level. My clients are why I continually educate myself on the latest techniques. I want to help as many people as possible finally feel the freedom of confidence in their skin.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I plan to expand my business. I also would like to give back and become a mentor to other inspiring estheticians and students. I know how intimidating it is to get started in this industry, and by building connections, others will feel more confident to become estheticians.
