Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Kim.
Paul, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had an appreciation for music growing up and listening to different genres of music whether it would be hip-hop, house, rock, and pop. It wasn’t until I started to produce my own music to fully understand how much effort and love artists, producers, and musicians put in work to create the art. My name is Paulie Beats and I am from Los Angeles, CA and I am a music producer. I got started in music by playing the guitar growing up and learning songs and melodies by myself. Being self-taught I had to learn how to play and create songs through watching videos and learning through how others play. It wasn’t until I decided to produce my own music that it opened my eyes to the world of music production. I fell in love instantly and never looked back on the possibility of making a name for myself and being able to work in the music industry. I finally understood what it is to have a passion for something and to obtain a goal no matter what the cost. My main genres of music I like to produce are house and hip hop as they are the main music I like to create. These two genres have always had a place in my heart growing up. Being self-taught I’ve learned you are always working on your craft, you never really finish learning because there is so much to know about your art. I believe no matter how long you have been producing, you will always be a student of the game.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There is never a smooth road in achieving your goals especially in the music industry. It is hard to make a name for yourself with so many other artists or producers trying to achieve the same goals. Every day can be a struggle when things don’t go your way and some days you just wanna give up. Trying to stand out over everyone else is all about just keep working on your craft and being consistent.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a producer and I make beats for artists and make house music. I am most proud of working with smaller artists as they are the future of the music industry. I love finding new small artists and trying to get their voices heard.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Los Angeles is the best city because this has been my home since birth. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else with our great food, history, culture, and of course weather.
The least thing I like about the city is of course the traffic as it takes time to get around from different neighborhoods.
