Today we’d like to introduce you to Janae.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My mother was a stay-at-home but also attended city college. Most times she was dressed very understated, no makeup and she had a really big Afro. One night she was in a fashion show for her school and her two of her friends dressed very pristinely straightened her with a hot comb the kind that you heat on the stove, then pulled her back into a slick bun. She had makeup on and black fitted pant and a shirt. This was the first time that I had ever seen her look like this. Her transformation had my attention and in my five years old mind, I thought I wanna look just like my mother. She was a beautiful.
By the time I was 13 years old, I had become acquainted with electric blue eyeliner, 521 lipstick by wet & wild, and Maybelline mascara in the pink tube. I graduated from that to practicing on all my friends.
Along the way, I developed acne and that ignited me to pursue makeup artistry even more so that I could properly learn how to conceal my blemishes. If some had a class I was in it if they had freelance work, I took it, whatever was available for hire I was there but underneath my beautifully done makeup, I was unhealthy blemished skin. The next phase was going to every dermatologist I could but unfortunately, my skin became much worst. I then started doing my own research on skincare, products, food and diseases and well I cured myself. It was on after that I attend two esthetics schools, enrolled in countless classes & seminars all while still pursuing my makeup career.
I had created something really special. I had become a trusted source in the industry not just by clients but my peers.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Both my parents became I’ll at the same time while raising my two daughters. My Career had taken a backseat to the needs of my family. It was a challenge to balance it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work my own business full-time as a consultant, esthetician and makeup artist. It brings me such joy to share what I have learned over the years with others. I specialize in SKIN Transformations. I’m most proud of seeing my dream come into fruition. Every step prepared and groomed me for where I am today. Looking back at some of the things I’ve done is impressive even to me. I’m most grateful and thankful for every experience. I am truly in my own lane. My will to stop at nothing, my dedication to the craft and my commitment to learning so that I may continue to elevate oh and washing! Lol!
