Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Elizabeth Gelber.
Hi Jordan Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve wanted to be an actor since I was five years old. It’s a passion that drew me from the very moment I saw my first movie. But I always knew I would have my own business. My parents motivated me to go after what I desire and have always been a success story when it comes to business. So, I created my own business at 23 to make opportunities for myself that no one else would give me and I knew I deserved. I learned there is a disconnect between entertainment and business so I decide to fill that need and educate others.
For small businesses, I especially wanted to bring everything in-house to provide 360 solutions because, in the entertainment industry, a lot of businesses are missing the marketing aspect and have no plan. In entertainment, there is a major disconnect and a lot of it is due to fear, conflict, and trust because society doesn’t deem entertainment as an actual career. I wanted a safe space that creates a two-sided marketplace where creatives have more control over their assets, and so STARBABY and Aperteur were born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is not easy. You have to love it. Starting something and trying to convince people why they should trust you, especially in this industry, can be challenging. Your job as an entrepreneur is to help people succeed which will help you succeed. I quit my day job to pursue my own business. I still use the same structures and mindsets, and foundations from that job. It wasn’t easy to quit as I put a lot on the line but it’s not about giving up your dreams to do something impractical, it’s doing something that turns out to be practical. You can’t just claim it you have to show it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Aperteur?
I’ve been an actor since I was a kid. I learned to create opportunities and create a business out of show business. I wanted to create a space for people like me because I felt the industry was oversaturated. I wanted to make it in entertainment and I saw a chance to educate creatives so that when they got into those life-changing meetings, I could teach them the business side so they weren’t going in blind. So many people don’t understand how the two sides of business and show business come together, and so I wanted to be a leader for creatives and even actors to make informed decisions. I found my success could come from making others successful, so I created Aperteur. I started out in the industry through the marketing firm that I created which takes a 360 degrees approach incorporating three main points Creation, Conversation, and Conversion.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I really see the entertainment industry shifting away from these big commercialized projects and making room for these underdog storytellers. You can now create from the comfort of your home and make something happen as we have released the binds that hold people back from creating especially independent filmmakers. We are breaking down the concepts of gatekeepers. Hollywood will always be Hollywood, however, there is power to shine around the globe now.
