Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Corp.
Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When 911 happened in 2001, I began a spiritual quest that led me to leaving the belief systems I was brought up in at the same time yoga entered my life.
I stumbled onto a yoga mat at the Jivamukti School in NYC in 2003 not knowing then the journey I was embarking on. I had just moved to Manhattan after receiving my MFA from Rutgers to pursue an acting career.
Acting led me to LA in 2007. It was there during the writer’s strike, coupled with the discovery of Shadow Yoga, that the life I once knew fell apart. Over the next decade, I would leave acting and discover my purpose.
I now travel the world & teach yoga. My belief is that the deeper we go out into the world, the deeper we go within. It is in this process that we come to know the phrase, WE ARE ALL ONE.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Death & rebirth are not for the faint of heart. To embrace the new, one lets go of the old. And that rite of passage can scare the shit out of anyone.
It is in the depth of the unknown that anything is possible. Discovering one’s strength in adversity and failure is a part of the process.
I had to dismantle my beliefs around how to make money and how to make a dream possible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a yoga teacher. I weave together ritual, archetype, storytelling, & astrology into my classes to spark creativity in movement.
I am most proud of retreats I lead abroad with The Travel Yogi to create an adventure, connection to one’s practice in amazing locations, & the connection to other cultures to realize WE ARE ALL ONE.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is being a teacher that empowers, inspires, and supports others in realizing their strengths within. To realize their own superpowers! That they can do and be anything! To confront the things that stand in the way of that. This is why I teach.
I have met teachers that showed up in my life ‘right on time’. Mostly when I was in a crisis of some kind. They changed my life. I want to be that kind of teacher for others.
