Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Galasso.
Hi Allie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had done yoga in college for a semester and never really thought much about it. After going through tons of life-altering experiences with drug abuse, eating disorders and wildly unhealthy relationships, I reached a point in my life where something needed to change. I wanted to be “healthy” for the first time I could ever remember. Yoga seemed like a hip and fun way to exercise so I found a studio in 2012 and haven’t stopped attending classes since then. It’s kind of a love story :’) Growth was happening for the first time for me and I attribute all of that to my continued Yoga practice and travels through Asia/ Europe. A balanced combination of comfort and pushing myself seems to be the recipe to a happy life for this yogi. I started teaching in 2016 and it has been such an enjoyable yet challenging few years. My classes are funky, strong, smart and full of lame jokes backed by some great dancey music. I love the little community that surrounds me and the people that attend my classes on the regular. Yoga has for sure changed my life no matter how cliche that sounds! also ps… I deeply love hiking, camping, dancing, music, napping, looking at animals in nature, my partner and my little kitty cat Calcifer.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The first leg of my journey to yoga was rough, I had problems with drugs and an eating disorder. Yoga was something that helped me immensely while navigating those challenging times.. and also loads of therapy! Now that I’ve been teaching for a few years it’s easy pz but the path to accumulating a teaching schedule can be hard and discouraging. I still face challenges with teaching ancient subject matter that doesn’t have clear rules and is in a language that’s no longer spoken. It’s a “people person” job to be a Yoga Intsructor so if you’re having a bad day it can be a struggle to be the bright light that so many people want their teachers to be. Despite all the tough things I’ve gone through to get here, I wouldn’t have it any other way because it has shaped me uniquely.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a lover of dance-like movement. Vinyasa Yoga is the main style that I teach and the instructors I take classes from inspire me to keep classes different and unique yet still manageable and effective. I specialize in Stress Relief Strategies a.k.a. I bring Yoga classes to your job and we get to move and breathe together all while you’re getting paid to be at work! Just call me your ‘local businesses one woman wellness show’…does that roll off the tongue?! I’m pretty well known for my quirky and slightly hyper personality that shines when I teach. I want everyone to feel welcomed and encouraged to keep moving and finding what you love. I am proud of staying true to my “weirdness” while also being able to maintain professional relationships with my students/ clients. I am different from others because I don’t buy into all the Yoga Hype/fake science claims, I actually quite enjoy challenging the Yoga norms and questioning things that others don’t.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always unique in my clothing growing up. I was interested in gothic style then it changed to being super girly, at some point I came around and went back to being a tomboy like when I was young. But regardless of my age I always love laughing and being silly the most.
