Today we’d like to introduce you to Coach Nami.
Hi Nami, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story is one of unlearning who society told me, uncovering my purpose and unleashing my compassion. And the global, mission-based organization, The Mind Quotient, that I founded teaches others to do the same. This wonderful journey started when I woke up on my 40th birthday and realized I didn’t know myself or what I wanted because I was always putting others first. I started prioritizing myself and through the process uncovered my purpose: I am here to encourage others to focus on themselves and go on that inner journey. Understanding that you hold the power to change your life if you are having challenges and feeling unfulfilled is why I started The Mind Quotient™. The Mind Quotient guides people to reveal the tools and resources they already have inside of themselves to deal with whatever comes their way by working on their MQ, the Mastery of The Mind.
There are many ways to work on your MQ. Individuals work with MQ Guides to uncover their purpose through 1:1 coaching and group mentoring. In MQ Academy, we are unlocking compassion and curiosity in children throught fun activities and programs. A customized curriculum for children is being developed by a team of kids. We are building connection in the community through MQ Events, designed to bring people together to embrace differences and oneness. We hope to fill the world with more light through these initiatives so that everyone can be who they were truly meant to be. It starts with a first step, which is to decide to take our lives back from our minds and begin that journey into ourselves. To learn more, visit www.themindquotient.co.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to get here requires tremendous courage and action. The biggest hurdle I had to overcome going against cultural and societal expectations to start putting myself first. I realized that I wasn’t making the best decisions for myself when I was putting my needs aside for everyone around me. During this process of unlearning, I realized that when I am grounded in my values and prioritizing myself, I make the best decisions and I am giving permission to others to do the same. Everyone has the right to create the best life for themselves and that requires knowing yourself, knowing what you value, and knowing to always put that first. This is the focus of my motivational speaking. It also helps that I know how to keep my MQ high! Of course, treading down an unbeaten path also requires immense support and guidance, which I am thankful to have received.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Mind Quotient. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Mind Quotient enourages people to take your life back from your mind. We do this by guiding people on a journey into themselves during which they learn to work on their MQ (Mind Quotient, mastery of the mind). Through this mission-based work, we fill the world with more light: connection, purpose and compassion.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My mother has been very influential in setting an example of a woman who puts her happiness first and works on herself all the time. She often says, “I’m a work in progress.” Aren’t we all! Kathy Walden, my spiritual teacher, has been instrumental in guiding me on the path to knowing myself and also knowing my ego. She has taught me to hear the voice of the Universe deep within – a gift that can never be repaid. In addition to my family, I have many fellow coaches and dear friends who have been supportive during this journey, and it really takes a village to not only raise a child but also start a business!
