Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Parker.
Hi Margo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Los Angeles, California with my mom and grandmother. I graduated from a small high school, Sierra Canyon during the pandemic. Sierra Canyon has a diverse student body. Me, being someone who is mixed with black/white, Brazilian, French and Israeli, it was comforting seeing people that looked like me growing up. l went to Sierra Canyon for 14 years!!
After I graduated high school I decided it was time to start to take my life seriously. I was the most inconsistent and laziest person I knew, no kidding. I always knew I wanted to be an entertainer, I love to write and sing but one day it clicked, I just felt more comfortable in front of camera then I ever was talking to people casually. I then joined Mad Acting Studios run by Max Decker! He and that studio changed my life. That’s where I met my agent Robin Nassif with Media Artists Group, and several casting directors such as Paul Ruddy, he would soon end up casting me in the two films “If Walls Could Talk” & “Deadly Girls Night Out” on Lifetime TV! Through Robin, I met my managers Ryan Daly and Yoni Ovadia with Zero Gravity Management. I’m also with Rick Ferrari at Ferrari Talent Agency commercially. I’m beyond grateful that they were able to take on a development project like myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I was younger and in high school, the downside for me was thinking that because financially I didn’t have as much as most of the other kids that went there, I was always comparing myself and in the end, I was just hurting myself by thinking I had less. On top of that, I wasn’t the typical blonde hair, blue-eyed, California bombshell. Looking back I realize how much I truly had and how grateful I am, especially for my mom and stepdad who made sure I had everything I needed. They made sure I knew we had to work hard for the things we wanted in life. I wish I could also go back and tell my younger self how much none of what’s happening will matter later and that the only person you need to compete with is yourself. Being in a few movies definitely helped my perspective. I realized how much time they’d spend on doing my make-up, hair and sometimes body makeup to cover any imperfections that I and everyone have. Just know anyone you see on social media or in movies; there were hours spent on making them look the way they do or editing in some cases.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The saying is preparation meeting opportunity equals success. l believe that if I’m the most prepared, no one will be able to stop me. Remember that you can 100% create your own reality and that the magic of believing is your best friend. If you believe you’ll get it, you will, I promise. I fully indulged myself into acting this past year and was able to come out with three movies, two which I was the lead in, and three shorts which I was the lead in as well. I only started just two years ago… This business is hard and everyone has an opinion, if you can take criticism in a healthy way and apply it to the next thing you do, you’ll never get worse. The goal is to get better not to stay in place. Can’t get caught up in the “no’s”, you might miss out on your “YES”, and you need to give it 100% each time, so no time to dwell in the past. And believe me, I know there was some luck involved. I’m truly grateful.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Of course, health and happiness go hand and hand! I am so grateful for my family’s health and their happiness makes me happy. What makes me happy for myself, well that’s easy… being an actress makes me happy. Acting is my passion, and I’ve learned how content and fulfilled I am when on set. I’ve been blessed with this opportunity and I want to make the impact of showing young girls/ boys that it’s okay to have frizzy hair, it’s okay to not look like everyone else, it’s okay to take a chance, and it’s okay to fall on your face as long as you get back up. That makes me happy.
