Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Echeverria and Candice James. Them and their team share their story with us below:
From passion project to flourishing business, GoldiLacts Lactation Consulting was born just as Co-Owners Candice Echeverria and Candice James were RE-born themselves as mothers for a second time. Best friends whose sons were born just a week apart, “The Candice’s” bonded through shared grief over their seemingly failed first breastfeeding journey. They were both determined to make breastfeeding work the second time around.
Unable to find the professional support that they both needed so desperately, they decided to BECOME exactly that! They made it their mission to be the support system parents need all over the world. They coupled their education in Psychology and Child Development along with their experiences working with children who have special abilities, added lactation-specific education and internship, became certified lactation consultants, and started building their own legacy.
Today, GoldiLacts has grown into a postpartum support powerhouse offering pre- and postnatal support to parents worldwide. It began with the simple belief that “if we just help ONE new parent, it’s worth it”. GoldiLacts has since expanded to helping hundreds of families of all different types, structures, cultures, and feeding styles. The Candice’s of GoldiLacts could not be more humbled and honored to be a source of support during the most amazing, vulnerable, and transformative time in people’s lives!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle and/or challenge is witnessing firsthand the general lack of credible support or understanding there is for lactation, infant feeding, and postpartum support overall. While we ARE a pillar of support, there is so much space for growth in assisting new parents in feeling completely secure during the postpartum period in general.
There is a major lack of validity and consistency across the internet and social media regarding infant feeding in general. Most pediatricians in our country of the U.S. have less than 10 hours of lactation-specific education in medical school, yet parents naturally seek lactation advice from their trusted medical professional and sometimes receive advice that can actually be detrimental to their feeding goals. We are a proud part of the evolution in bringing evidence-based information and experience to the field, along with many other professionals who we respect in the Los Angeles area and beyond.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We provide in-home and virtual breastfeeding and postpartum support services for the new family. We help to address and troubleshoot any issues with breastfeeding discomfort and concerns, develop new feeding plans upon bringing baby home from the hospital or birthing center, and help with organizing the home while integrating a newborn into the family lifestyle. What sets us apart is that we are a team of two who strives to be available to our clients almost immediately and our support never ends when the session is done! We aim to be your “breastie” throughout your feeding journey and beyond.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We absolutely LOVE what we GET to do every day. The Mark Twain quote, ‘Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.’, rings so true for us. It is a gift to join new parents and hold their hands through the postpartum journey.
Not a day goes by that we are not so grateful to be able to empower parents to discover and be who they ALREADY are, which is the perfect parent for their baby.
It really isn’t about us. It is about parents tapping into the knowledge and intuition that is already there. We feel so humbled to be able to gave a job in which we get to witness this magic.
