Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Piacente.
Hi Adam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Wow. Loaded question. The whole story would take me 17 years to tell since I started to seriously pursue my career when I was 21. Would’ve loved to start earlier but I made promises to finish my education. After that, I just hit the ground running. Signed up for the best Acting classes recommended to me, got headshots, and started submitting. I studied at the Lee Strasberg Film and Theater Institute here in NYC. I took some classes at HB Studio as well. Then spent my spare time auditioning and networking as much as I can, juggling up to three jobs to support myself. What got me to where I am today is my unconditional love for all things Movies. It motivates me to push through self-doubt and fear of failure.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I guess you can say it’s been a smooth road in the sense that I’m alive and well enough to talk with you about my story. I have food in my stomach, air in my lungs, and a roof over my head so I’ve been pretty blessed so far. But navigating my career path has been FULL of ups and downs. Getting jobs that feel like it’s finally gonna happen, only to have dry spells that can last up to a year. I was the closest I’ve ever come to hanging it all up during the never-ending shutdowns that destroyed my opportunities and my survival jobs here in the city. But a recent string of projects kept the fight alive for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am first and foremost an Actor. When I was old enough to realize my heroes from the movies I love were actually actors bringing the stories to life, I knew that’s what I had to do. When I’m not acting or helping create, I’m a full-time stay-at-home Dad at the moment. I also review Movies on my socials. I’ve been going to the movies up to three times a week since I was 12. So I started reviewing movies to stop people from calling me to ask about them. (I not so secretly loathe talking on the phone.) So ever since I started posting my thoughts on the movies that are playing, the calls have stopped!
How do you think about luck?
Last year I would’ve said none. My Father used to say the Piacente’s have no luck at all. He even had a funny saying that I adopted and use all the time. “My luck is so bad that if I started to invest in cemetery plots people would stop dying.”
But this past year has been pretty lucky. A new friendship formed off of my movie review page on Instagram reignited my drive to stay in this crazy acting game.
