Rising Stars: Meet Tyree Exum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyree Exum.

Hi Tyree, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started for me back in Sept 2017. I had no knowledge of the business at the time just knew I wanted more in life & felt entrepreneurship was the way to go. It was definitely a rough start but I was very patient & believed in myself so much I knew this would work out for me. I began working on my craft every single day nonstop putting in time & researching everything I needed to know that lead me to getting my first booking Oct 2017 thanks to my brother Sahdai Harper, one of the few that believed in me in the beginning. The rest is history!! Fast forward to today, now I’m one of the top creatives in North Carolina!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working for yourself is never a smooth road. You constantly have to market yourself, network, and actually work. I started with literally nothing, no equipment, no camera knowledge, I really started from the bottom. One of my biggest struggles at first was actually getting clients to book. Some people just didn’t believe in the vision or what I was doing but after a while the work spoke for itself & all that changed quick!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Creative| I would say I specialize in portrait, lifestyle & boudoir photography. I’m a videographer as well so event coverage, podcasts, & branded content would be on the list.

What I’m most proud of is overcoming adversity & doing something different nobody thought I could do. If you’re reading this, never let opinions stop you from following your dreams or accomplishing a goal that you have. Everyone won’t see your vision. Keep going!!

I think what sets me apart from others is my personality making my clients feel confident about themselves when we work together, the vibe is unmatched! I would also say my use of composition & symmetry, A lot of that is lost with the desire of fast content so I try to be mindful of every shot & shoot/film with a purpose.
