Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Vellutato.
Hi Dominique, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in a musical household and knew it was what I wanted to do for my adult life. My focus for as long as I can remember was school and soccer. However, while I was up UC Berkeley, I’d come home for the summers and intern was able to intern at a few record labels. My first job out of college was the Music Coordinator for The Voice. I couldn’t have asked for a better first role. My boss Clyde Lieberman deserves a massive shout out because he’s not only the most incredible human I’m honored to know, but he was the absolute best boss. I would soak up any and all knowledge I could from him and I still do as often as I can. He’s the main reason I know anything about anything.
I took a small detour and moved to San Francisco for a role as a Music Marketing Specialist at GoPro. Those two years were an entirely different experience from show life and Los Angeles. My team and I got to work with some top artists and their teams to develop GoPro content, making our own branded content, going to festivals and working on integrating live streaming and 3D video. However, even with the exciting opportunities and experiences I was having, I headed home to flip the script and be a songwriter.
Throughout my life, I’ve had a deep love for songs and lyrics. I would write songs but was always too shy to share them, too insecure to do anything about it. So after a little while in Northern California, I mustered up the courage, moved back to LA and threw myself into songwriting. I would write with everyone and anyone I could. I made some incredible friends, had some great chances, and learned that this would be the hardest and most rewarding time in my life. Pretty early on I had a song come out with LDN Noise where I was a feature, a duet with James Maslow, and then my first artist release “Convince You” made a bit of a splash that year. The momentum was building and I was going for it! I released several singles from 2018 to 2019. I did several performances (Hotel Cafe, Breaking Sound, WFNM, etc).
Additionally, I was an A&R for The Voice Originals. I also worked briefly on Songland and just this past year I was the Music Producer for the American Song Contest. This was my first ever producer credit on a show and I was so honored to work alongside my colleagues.
I continue to write for other artists and have had some great moments this past year. I wrote and am featured on a song called “Drifter” with Morgin Madison. We reached top 40 on Billboard Dance Chart, earning my first billboard placement. My talented collaborator Redah and I released a covers EP and landed a national tv commercial with our cover of “Put A Little Love In Your Heart”. I have two EPs set to release in the coming year with Industry Music as well as my own independent EP coming out Nov 18th. “Rediscovery” tackles my emotional ups and downs, some relationship chaos per usual, and of course love.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I like the obstacles… would never want it to be a smooth road. I appreciate all the bumps and turns it’s made me a better person and writer.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer-songwriter known for my delicate voice and heartfelt lyrics. I’m most proud that I haven’t given up yet and I’m still striving to be my best. One of my dreams is to write a song that surpasses me and my lifetime, like “Landslide” or “Time After Time” where people feel the message and relate to it across generations. That is a goal of mine and I could write it tomorrow or in 20 years…. only time will tell.
What matters most to you? Why?
My dog Obie.
My family and friends.
The meaning in my songs and the kindness I show towards others. It’s always been important to me to be kind and compassionate as well as understanding and open-minded.
