Sabrina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It was always a dream of mine to open a private practice that allowed me to provide quality therapy for children and their families. I worked in the public school sector for several years while providing private therapy to a handful of clients. Once I had my son, I decided to go for it and plan for the business I always dreamed of. Lil’ Chit-Chat was established in 2014 and it has been the best professional decision I made.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Establishing a business is not an easy feat. It takes dedication, courage and stamina. It is truly a humbling experience. This journey has taught me so much about myself as a person and has pushed me to reach goals that I never imagined could be achieved.
At Lil’ Chit-Chat, we work with families that have children experiencing a variety of delays and disorders. We need to be sensitive and supportive both on an emotional level and professional level. Finding that balance is a critical skill in our business.
At the end of the day, we are making a difference in the children and families we serve.
That always outweighs the struggles that we face. Embarking on this road of establishing Lil’ Chit-Chat has been well worth it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lil’ Chit-Chat Speech & Language Therapy story. Tell us more about the business.
We provide speech-language and feeding therapy in the comfort of your own home. Our therapists truly get to know your child and their family. All of our therapists are speech pathologists that hold a Master degree in speech pathology. We do not provide a “one size fits all” therapy approach. All of our clients are given an individualized treatment plan that is catered to their specific needs. We offer some unique programs such as Parent Enrichment Program which is designed to empower parents in the area of speech and language development. As well as Online Speech Therapy which offers live, interactive therapy through video conferencing software.
It is truly our mission to change the lives of each of our clients and their families. We are passionate about not only helping children through their present challenges but also providing them the foundation to live a happy, fulfilling and successful life.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say that I am pretty fortunate to have an established business. This fortune is a result of many things including making sound decisions and being mindful throughout the development of Lil’ Chit Chat from inception to the present.
I feel lucky to be a part of the speech-language pathology profession. Thanks to my mother who was in a similar field, I was exposed to working in schools that were staffed with a variety of therapists. I took a liking to the work of the speech pathologists and knew prior to going to college that this was going to be my chosen profession. I think many individuals are uncertain what they would like to do when they “grew up”. I was one of the lucky ones.
