Meet Mykel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykel.

Hi Mykel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to Los Angeles at 19 years old with no degree and no contacts. Since then, I have been grinding and building a name for myself and have been living the dream for six years now! Many incredible mentors and friends have blessed my life along the way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. Between constant odd jobs, side gigs, and different contracts, I have seen my fair share of struggle. Even as things progress lately, it is still a constant fight. But that’s life. Everything is hard, you just gotta choose what hard works for you.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an independent recording artist. I sing and write songs about empowerment, and the human experience. It is how I cope and understand the world around me. I am most proud of the fact that I stand my ground and have stayed true to that vision throughout the years. I am also most proud of my latest song which released last week! It’s called “I Don’t Wanna Hear It” and it’s about telling your negative thoughts to shut up. Something we all need to hear. My strength definitely lies in my vocal ability – I have put my 10,000 hours in for sure 😉

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that it is a land of opportunity, the American dream, and excitement! I love the weather, the landscape. I DO NOT love the traffic and the lack of resources for the homeless here.
