Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Williams.
Hi Diana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Photography has been my hobby on and off for about 15 years now. I love all types of photography and I went through a lot of phases. I started with street photography and my favorite part of that was it took me all over the city and I got to meet tons of people. I did a little bit of sports photography for a little leagues and friends for a bit and it was around that time that I started to want to try portrait photography. I took pictures of anyone that would let me. I would see photoshoots that I like and I would try to do it. Putting together shoots really helped me creatively but also helped develop my style. I was more willing to show my work once I felt more confident. That is when my hobby morphed into a business. I used social media a little more, I had friends ask for shoots and from word of mouth started my small list of clients. I put more work into it and more practice and have been able to grow slow and steady. I do have to mention that I went to school, worked full time, got married and had two kids during all of this. This journey has been slow. After the pandemic hit, I left my hospital job and really that is when I decided that I was going to peruse this full-time. So here I am, still learning and really trying to better my craft every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At the very beginning, it was hard to find people that wanted to humor me. Not everyone wants to be photographed or wants to play dress-up. I basically offered my services to anyone that would take it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a family photographer. The best compliment I get from my clients is that I make them feel comfortable during their session, whether that be boudoir, couple, or family with small kids. I like to connect with people and I love kids, I pride myself in the fact that I have worked hard to figure out how to work with different people and situations. Not everyone wants to be in front of the lens, I understand that. Kids are not the easiest but I do what I need to get the genuine smiles. I don’t just work to take capture beautiful moments but really try to make the experience a great one.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Practice and patient are at a tie for this one. Practice makes improvement and to be great at something, at least in my opinion you have to practice. You have to get to know yourself and be patient when you fail.
