Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Sprenger.
Kim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Videography came into my life at a time when I needed it most. From the day I could walk, my life had consistently been consumed by sports. When I was 18 I moved to California from a small town in Northern Idaho to play soccer at Orange Coast College.
Long story short, my soccer career ended after my first season which helped me discover my love for videography. I bought myself a DSLR camera and started creating in Final Cut Pro.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. This relates to every struggle and challenge that has crossed my path. This also leads me to where I am today and my current success. My dad was diagnosed with ALS 6 years ago. I was 16 when we learned about his disease and now at the age of 22, I understand that I wouldn’t have started videoing weddings if he hadn’t become sick. This doesn’t justify his illness or make it easier to see his body continue to deteriorate but it has helped me understand to trust the process of my life, both good or bad, it is all connected to a bigger purpose.
Please tell us about kimjosprengerfilms.
Every time I start editing a new project, I think about what feeling I want my viewers to experience when watching my work. I especially love making people emotional.
Honestly, if I make you cry, I am happy. This contradicts my love for making people smile but I learned that I use my work to express deeper emotions and the things that are important to me. I believe I am known by most for being a very happy and outgoing person. For those who know me best, they see this side as well as my sentimental and some days incredibly emotional side. I genuinely care about what I do and each couple I meet. I try to tell their story in the way that I am able to share my own stories, simply from a different perspective. I want my videos to reveal the way a couple’s love story is perceived by the rest of the world, one they might not recognize. Video gives people a different angle and a new appreciation of their relationship. I recently made a documentary video about my dad. I wanted to show him not only the way I value his presence but also the positive and influential impact he has on his community and loved ones.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to change anything It would simply be starting earlier. Video has changed my life and allowed me to capture memories in a way that I can remember moments on a deeper and intimate level. I learned how I can use my love and passion to make a positive change in the world. Whether that helps a couple fall in love all over again or bringing awareness to an unfamiliar but incredibly damaging disease. I am making a difference that I wouldn’t have been able to, had I continued to play college soccer.
