Life & Work with Rachel Lang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Lang.

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I first became an astrologer and psychic medium, it wasn’t nearly as popular as it is today. In addition to the usual stressors of entrepreneurship, I also had an added challenge of educating others about the various ways we can use astrology. Some people didn’t take my work seriously, and some of my closest relatives thought I had gone to the dark side!

For a few years, I worked a full-time job while building my business on the side. I started my practice in Nashville, where I lived for eight years. Then, I accepted a job as a marketing director/astrologer at a socially responsible fashion company and moved to LA in 2010. The visionary behind the company, Robin Keyser, was really ahead of her time by merging business and spirituality. It has become more of a trend today.

My client practice grew over the years, and I love working with a variety of people all over the world today. In addition to that, I teach classes, write horoscopes, and lead ritual gatherings.

The heart and soul of my work is helping others experience their power to shape their lives access their intuition, and gain mastery of their spiritual gifts. I can help clients discover their roadblocks and navigate ways around them. I also love helping students understand manifestation, work with magic, and develop psychic mediumship skills.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first started my practice, some friends and family members didn’t take this work seriously. Some even thought I had gone to the dark side! It was difficult to manage the push-back I received while also maintaining a positive perspective. There were many times when I wanted to give up, especially in the beginning when I was working two jobs to make ends meet while I established my practice.

In addition to those challenges, I also faced some personal challenges with acceptance as I came out as a lesbian to my family. I was building a practice and coming out at the same time — two aspects of my life that went against the grain.

The more I accepted myself and lived my truth, the more I felt expanded in my work and purposeful in my life. I learned there is no value in inauthenticity and that when we live a heart-centered life, we can change the hearts of others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a psychic medium and astrologer since 2006. I also teach classes, write horoscopes, and lead a membership group called Astrology • Mysticism • Magic for spiritual seekers, astrology enthusiasts, and people who love community rituals.

One of my most proud accomplishments is my book, Modern Day Magic: 8 Simple Rules to Realize your Power and Shape Your Life, which released on September 28. This book gives a practical, hands-on approach to working with magic. I wrote it for the busy person who wants to incorporate spirituality into their everyday lives. It’s the kind of book you want to keep, write in, and have on your nightstand because it’s beautiful (thanks to my creative inspiration of my publisher, Hardie Grant).

Lately, my work has branched off in a number of directions, and I’m excited about the opportunities that have opened up! I’m leading ritual experiences for groups in nonprofits to become more involved in giving back. I’m also collaborating with a good friend, Bonnie Gillespie, to teach Astrology for Creatives, a 6-week online course to help entrepreneurs and creatives work with astrology to optimize pathways for success. I’m on the faculty for the Relationships and Astrology certificate course, and I lead Magic Classes on a regular basis. One of my favorite things I do is mentoring students in developing their spiritual, psychic, and mediumship gifts.

I volunteer with a few causes I love. I’m on the Marketing Committee for the International Association of Ethical Astrologers, serve as the VP of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR), and am the Outreach Director for the national board. I’m always finding ways to give back.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’m pretty enthusiastic! I love to create, and when I am on a roll with an idea, I will work day and night until it’s finished. I focus same enthusiasm I have for life toward my clients, friends, and students. I love cheering people on and helping them see possibilities when they face setbacks.

This trait- enthusiasm- inspires me to give my all in work and life. Passion drives me to find ways to give back and make a difference. I could never be bored because I hunger to learn, love to experience new things, and have a surplus of creative energy.

In addition to enthusiasm, I would say because of my challenges in life, compassion compels all I do. I care about others and the earth. The magic rule of three states, that which you send out into the world, comes back to you threefold. So, I take seriously my thoughts, words, and actions. I lead with compassion and kindness.
