Conversations with Yumz Awkword

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yumz Awkword.

Hi Yumz, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Hickory, NC and I’ve always been around music and musician my whole life it’s the only thing I’ve ever been interested I recorded my first song when I was 13 and my pops got me my own equipment when I was 16 after that it was off from there I made so many mixtapes and album it’s crazy round 2019 I move to Sacramento to work with my current label “Bedroomtrap” my producer Sbvce and videographer (Managers) took a gamble with me and I’m glad they did because I haven’t let up since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never smooth it took me along time to even be confident with my art for real. I come from a city where you can’t really be different and I’ve always just been who I am never apologize for it and never will but because of that and my surrounding some days I really didn’t have the energy anymore before I moved I was really about to give up on everything I lost a lot of people before and after I left my home and I’m still struggling now but I know I can do this I believe in me more then anybody else can doubt me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I never really know what to call myself Rapper seem to wash out but I’m a rapper all-round songwriting to freestyle, I can do it all. My biggest accomplishment so far is my song “BANZ” prod by my best friend Ebar; we made it when I first came it took a year before release and another year for video and when it dropped it when crazy, it’s current sitting at 850k on Spotify and honestly I never thought I see the type of numbers. I think what sets me apart is I will try every style and still return back to who I really am as an artist I can adopt without changing who I am and I think that’s what you really need to be a long-lasting artist nowadays.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was really weird and Awkward hints the name I was a happy kid doe same as I am today I had a great mom and dad and grandparents but nobody really outside and sometimes inside my family could really understand the person I was half the time I didn’t know either it causes a lot of mental health issues for me as a kid but it all works out.
