Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Tardón.
Hi Mario, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Four years ago, me and my wife, we packed everything we owned in a couple of suitcases and moved to LA. In this time, a lot has happened and we truly had the best experience of our lives. Still, we are having it! It has been tough and hard trying to start a new career, specially when we already had an existing one back at our country, Spain. We had to reinvent ourselves and focus on one simple task: thrive.
Something that we usually say is that we are not there yet, but every day is a bit better than the one before. Meaning that we are doing good. And better every day.
As a Spanish actor, coming here is exactly what you would expect: brutal and extremely challenging. If you add, on top of that, the COVID pandemic, all you can do is laugh about it. Right now, that’s my motto, no expectations at all. Going with the flow and learning from every experience. Ironically, I’m happier than ever.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, the language has been the very first one. But not only that. Coming from Europe, you have to rethink many aspects of your previews routine: your relationship with the bank, with the insurances, with government,… It’s more less the same issues but here, things get done in a very different way. And until you make your way through it, takes a while. Once you are settled you, then, have to go out and fight. Everyone who lives here have to ferociously fight in order to achieve their dream. And it’s not easy. Someday you just think that everything is against you. I just to have nightmares about me being broke and having some kind of medical expenses. Horrifying.
But at the end of the day, this place gives more than it takes: the people you meet, the weather, the beach, the desert, … everything is so inspiring and beautiful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actor and a writer. I have over 20 years of experience between film, tv and theatre.
I have worked in both languages in Spanish projects and in American ones. Oscar Isaac, Demi Moore, Adam driver, Cliff Curtis or Joseph Fiennes are only a few of the list of my coworkers.
I’m really proud of one thing in particular: my resilience. I grew up in a small village. When I say small, I mean five houses and one church. Tiny. Nobody in family had anything to do with art, in any shape or form. And yet, here I am. Thriving and building a career in Hollywood. Not bad…
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Family is family. And good friends… you can count them with the fingers of one hand. As long as you are aware of that, life’s easy. Every day is a present, health is the most precious gift, use your time wisely and FLOOSS YOUR TEETH!
