Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Guillory.
Hi Zoe, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Zoe which means life in Greek. When I started my business 22 years, it was a new beginning for me. I left corporate America believing in my talent of what I had to offer with the love of fashion. I always started with vintage clothing since I was a little girl raised by my great grandmother, and I would always say one day I would have my own business, and here we are. I started my business from my home selling at flea markets, events, And so long. Ten years ago, I open up my business in the West Adams community because I wanted to be in the community where I live, so God bless me with the storefront close to my home. I was at that location for six years. Due to the gentrification, I was forced to leave That location. Now I’m off Redondo in pico in mid-city, which is also close to my home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an entrepreneur, you have your ups and downs because when I started this business, I did not have a business plan; I had a vision, and I execute it. I found my first store by passing by it every day and looking through the window and manifesting that I was going to get that placed two weeks later that place was empty I didn’t he didn’t even have a for rent sign I went next-door I asked the neighbor can I get the owners number I called the owner on Tuesday I got the place on Friday I was there for exactly six years, so that was my first baby that I took it upon myself and stepped out on faith to open up my own business due to what’s happening in the urban community with the gentrification I was forced to leave that location yes I did Fight the development company because I felt I lived in the community why couldn’t I be a part of the change. Still, God closes one door and opens up a bigger door, and we have to understand that everything happens for a reason. During COVID, every small business was affected, so we had to figure ways to keep My business alive, so we went live on social media platforms.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Zoe’s Vintique is a fabulous boutique in mid-city that specializes in unique one-of-a-kind vintage and contemporary fashion and accessories. We cater to all sizes. We have various styles from name brand to know name it’s all about how you put those pieces together. What makes us different is that we can spot your class as soon as you walk through the door. We offer a stylist service, and we love giving back to the community because I feel when you live in the community, you have to do your part in the community when you’re a small business, so I love giving clothes away to those that are in need.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I truly am blessed still to have a brick and mortar for ten years. As you see, the world is constantly changing, and fashion and COVID-19 are genuine, and it has affected so many small businesses, so I am genuinely grateful when I wake up. And still, have a storefront to come to.
