Meet Kerrie (Kordowski) Fall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerrie (Kordowski) Fall.

Hi Kerrie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Proprietor/Owner, Creatrix/Magickal Weaver, and Executive Faerie. I am a professional costume designer and creator of Opal Moon Designs. Originally from New York, I started a nursing career directly out of high school. After completing my RN/BSN, I served 10+ years in the medical field. I soon found the path to my truest calling in 1999 when I relocated from New York to San Francisco. I fell in love with the art, dance and electronic music scene. I soon after started Opal Moon with handmade jewelry and after three years later delved into my women’s clothing designs, selling at underground street and music faires. From there, I honed my passion in clothing design completing 2 AA’s in Fashion and Costume Design at FIDM (The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) in San Francisco & Los Angeles. In 2004, I moved to Los Angeles, spending ten years in Costume Design for the film industry, concurrently establishing my handmade fashion line: Opal Moon Designs. Eventually, I chose to leave the hectic hustle of film life so I could more steadily (and presently) focus on Opal Moon Designs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not… it’s been a tremendous amount of ups and downs throughout the process of… But what’s inspired me through the years is the quote one of my colleagues guided me with when I first started my business: “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it”. It’s so very true~!

Opal Moon Designs is a business built on integrity, unique design and premium quality clothing proudly made in Los Angeles, CA USA. Chiefly inspired by ancient mythology & science fiction, my signature design style is described as “Tribal Sci-Fi.” It is a unique style, built with my blood, sweat, and tears (literally) 😉 My passion is evident in my designs as they always push the edges of boldness and elegance without sacrificing quality or comfort. Opal Moon Designs has been in business for 20 years as of this year! and has now grown to now offer a full women’s line (OpalMoon), a men’s line (OpalMen) as well as more epicene unisex options (OpalM.). In all of my creations, I’ve taken the utmost care and consideration to welcome and honor all body types, offering her pieces from XS-3XL and appealing to all gender/non-gender identified souls. A true testament to my tenet: “Threads to Transform your Spirit.”

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory is the inspiration given to me from my grandmother. She was an expert seamstress (self-taught) and she naturally/genetically passed those skills down to me. I used to love dressing up in her clothes~ which to me were “costumes” made of the most magical metallics/brocades, tapestries, and ornate fabrications of truly spectacular designs. They were pieces of her life and history spent in the 60’s and 70’s that I truly cherished at a very young age. These memories, along with the introduction to the film saga: “Star Wars” by my father at a very young age, were what called me to follow my passions. I tried to deny it for so many years! I thought I couldn’t create a steady “career” on this, so I chose nursing in turn as a more secure *future*/paycheck. However, over time and with experience and through my love of art, I learned I could not resist pursuing my passion: one-of-a-kind designs. It was not mass-production of I was after, only truly unique pieces that were of “Limited Edition” collections. I honor authenticity and distinctiveness in everything I do. And I enjoy sharing that with the world.
