Inspiring Conversations with Devin Lezama of EDM Maniac

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Lezama.

Devin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m originally from New York City, but I’ve been in LA for about the past ten years. I moved here after film school but quickly found interest in the dance music community out here in LA. I suppose it all really started when I was new to LA and really wanted to meet people, so I went out to Hollywood and West Hollywood to hear some music and dance. From there, I met some local DJ’s who wanted to throw an EDM party in West Hollywood and I of course agreed to help out. The party became a success and I ended up meeting lots of people on the way. Then we decided to take the party to warehouse around LA county and things kind of blew up from there. Instagram was just becoming popular and we used that as a vehicle to promote the parties. One thing led to another and I figured it was time to start a blog and share my passion for the music and culture. Fast forward to nine years later and EDM Maniac is my baby. We’re a publication but also do live events. We’re currently doing socially distant live events in Austin with some big DJs like 12th Planet, Dombresky, to name a few. Our passion is bringing people together and we try to do that both online and offline.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! Surprisingly, not everyone wants to see you be somewhat successful. Let’s just say there are and will always be haters. Because social media is constantly changing, the biggest challenge there is keeping on top of all the trends and changes to algorithms. Also, doing what you love in never a walk in the park. If you really believe in something and want to own the project, it’s going to be a TON of sleepless nights. I think when it’s your thing, you become attached it more-so than a typical 9-5 job. If it’s your passion, it’s going to be a lot of work. But there’s nothing more thrilling.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about EDM Maniac?
We are a dance music publication that amplifies emerging artists, events and brings the dance music community to the world. We’re known as a publication, but we pay a great amount of time towards branding and making everything high quality. We are proud to keep everything looking professional. We are very detail-oriented. We offer competitive advertising and marketing opportunities on our social media and website. We love working with different brands and artists.

How do you think about happiness?
I love traveling and experiencing different cultures. There’s something about being in a new place that is very eye-opening and uplifting.
