Today we’d like to introduce you to Marabina Jaimes.
Marabina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Mexi-Rican born in very exotic Glendale, California! I grew up among many parks – Glassel Park, Cypress Park, Highland Park, and have had the opportunity to travel throughout South America and Europe performing. I had a goal to make it to Mr. Rodgers neighborhood and I did! I won an Emmy for Hosting “Storytime!” on PBS, along with Kino (Mark Ritts, RIP).
I’m an actress who has done theater, commercials, cartoons, and episodic TV – in two languages, and I’m proud to be bilingual and bicultural. I dubbed Desperate Housewives in Spanish for the entire run of the show which led to the documentary NOW EN ESPANOL by Andrea Meller, also picked up by PBS/Voces. After so many years in this beautiful business, I agreed with my fellow Latina actress friend, Bel Hernandez, publisher of www.LatinHeat.com, that a platform was needed for the American Latina voice from the entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood. A few months before Covid19 hit, she invited me to co-host and produce @TheTrendTalkShow and we’ve been picked up locally by @MeTVNetwork LA, although the show is available on all social media platforms.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, there have been obstacles – in hindsight, every brief stall has been an opportunity to grow and learn, but I think the biggest obstacle has been misinformed people giving me a “NO”……however I’ve built a path to Emmys and success on many “NO”s.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Cohosting, Writing, and Producing @TheTrendTalkShow is not easy to do independently, but Bel and I are having a ball! We’ve been able to interview so many cool Latino creatives, from established writers and producers who normally wouldn’t take interviews, to entrepreneurs, to financial experts, to brilliant young up and comers. We get to shine a positive light on the American Latino experience, and we hope, nudge the limiting, negative narrative of the past. One thing is clear if it’s trending…we’re talking!
And did I say I love doing Voice Work? Narration, Cartoons, Video Games, Looping, Dubbing! So much so that I’m also very involved with www.AcademiaDeLaVoz.com, a virtual bilingual voice academy. Tito Alvarez (the Spanish voice of Coca-Cola) and Dantonio Alvarez (Producer of All Rise on CBS) brought me in to create a unique Voice Over Curriculum and I am overjoyed by our amazing virtual students!
On camera? I wrote and produced, along with 50 other creatives, the anthology film soon to be released “COVID19: Sins & Virtues” produced by Alex Mendoza, Yennifer Behrens, and Mauricio Mendoza.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is the greatest city in the world…because the whole world is here! And @TheDodgers WON the WORLD SERIES!!!! Shout out to “LosDoyers” #1Fan, my son Jasper Rey and remarkable play by play team, Jaime and Jorge Jarrin!!
The only thing I don’t like is not being able to go Salsa dancing or visit @TheHollywoodBowl for now…but we’ll be back Los Angeles!
