Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Grabois Fischer.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the founder and author of The Be Books. The Be Books is a children’s book publishing company that teaches children to BE… Positive, Accepting, Kind, and Loving, through stories that build self-confidence and create an awareness of BEing their best self. I currently have six published books available for purchase and two new books currently being illustrated. You can find them on my website www.thebebooks.com or by searching “Lauren Grabois Fischer” on Amazon.
How did The Be Books come to be? I’ve always been a writer and a dreamer. I’ve always wished for our world to be kind and accepting of everyone. I was an elementary education teacher for nine years and during that time, I always put a focus on making sure that every child left my classroom kinder and more patient than how they came into it. In 2012 I gave birth to my son and wrote a poem for him. That poem became my first book, “Be Who You Were Meant To Be.” The feeling of watching my words come to life in a book was incredible. Getting feedback from parents saying their children felt better about themselves and were showing confidence from reading my book, that gave me the fuel to continue sharing my words publicly with the world.
Soon after, “You Are A Superhero” was born. “Every So Often A Zebra Has Spots” followed closely behind. And then “Love Grows Love” and “The Light Within Me.” My latest book, “Life” was published during the COVID quarantine and includes a note from the author talking about life and how it has changed. Look out in Winter 2020/Spring 2021 for “The Zoo’s Big News” and “The ABC’s To A Mindful Life.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot goes into publishing a book. It has definitely been a learning experience for me and with each new book, I learn more and more. Finding the right illustrator is important because you want your words to be felt and understood as you had intended. Finding the right printer is a challenge in itself. Of course, printing in the USA is a goal but it is hard to find a reasonably priced printing house. Promoting yourself is a lot of work and definitely involves a lot more social media than you’d like. But it’s all fun and exciting, as you know you’re sharing positivity and love in a world that needs it so much.
Please tell us about The Be Books.
The Be Books is a children’s book publishing company that teaches children to BE… Positive, Accepting, Kind, and Loving, through stories that build self-confidence and create an awareness of BEing their best self. I published my first book in 2015 and haven’t stopped since. I believe in creating books for young children to empower them to love who they are, to be kind to everyone that they meet, to respect all living creatures, to feel like they can make a positive change in this world, and to be true to themselves always. As an elementary educator, I know how important reading is and how an inspiring book can really make a huge difference. As a mom to two amazing kiddos, I am always looking to create books that I would want them to be reading. Every book that I write has a positive message and a lesson to learn.
I am so proud of creating The Be Books. What started as a dream and a hobby has become a career and beautiful contribution to society. What makes me the most proud? What makes me smile and feel good about what I am doing? I receive emails and messages from parents thanking me for helping their child express their emotions (Love Grows Love), thanking me for simplifying that being different is beautiful (Every So Often A Zebra Has Spots), thanking me for teaching their children to speak kindly to themselves and to others and that they can make a difference in this world (You Are A Superhero, The Light Within Me). There are no words to express the feeling inside when I hear that my books have helped someone.
What sets me apart from others? I am me… Just as you are you. We both have so much to share with the world. And how beautiful of a world it is when we work together and spread positivity, love, light, and kindness.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Three memories stand out:
One of my favorite memories from childhood is snack time during preschool. I remember getting one sugar cookie on a napkin and a Dixie cup of milk and thinking that it was the best snack ever.
Another one of my favorite memories from childhood is playing with my toys and barbies. I loved imagining and playing and just being in la-la-land. Dreaming was always something that I enjoyed… even from a very young age.
On a more serious note, my favorite memories are traveling with my parents and three sisters. Every summer, we rented (or purchased) a motorhome and drove across country from Florida to California. We played “Mary Poppins” and “Annie” the whole way watching each at least twenty times.
