Meet Eddie Grey of High Frequency Tracks/HF Music Academy in NOHO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Grey.

Eddie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in an industrial working class town and always dreaming about music. It was my first love and everything else life had to offer paled in comparison. I spent my days in school doodling on paper while I listened to the likes of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Police, Green Day, and Mozart.

Mostly self-taught, I played in bands growing up but made it at a point to constantly hire Vocal teachers and Guitar instructors to help me on my path. I tried going to college and it was lie fitting a square shape into a Circle so I decided to carry on with the Music Path and double down on my own education. I continued touring and educating myself and went so far as to spend 40 days and 40 nights in a cabin in a small town called “Angels Camp”. The purpose was to analyze music from the greats. In that timeframe, I analyzed Marvin Gaye, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and most of Sting’s catalog. It was quite the education.

I came to a crossroads as a young adult where I realized I had to make a change and move out of the nest. After a devastating breakup, I went to the gym and was immediately noticed by the Manager there and he gave me a job. Music was going ok but I needed the funds to live my own life so I went for it. In my time as a trainer at LA Fitness, I became #2 in California and #4 in the world and while it was fun…..I still had a dream in my heart.

After a series of events, I met a girl who really believed in my talent and saw me as a Creative and not just a trainer. Her belief in me was enough for me to pick the guitar back up and give it another go after a three years Hiatus. I sold out the Hotel Cafe and played residency all over town and while it was fun and meaningful, it was not lucrative so I decided to hang up the gloves after a sold-out show in Venice, CA. We send up marrying and having a beautiful daughter.

I played video games for about two months not knowing where my life would go…I checked my bank account and saw that I had a deposit in my account for 1,500 bucks. I was elated and confused…How did I make money when all I have been doing is laying here playing video games?

Turns out, as I was playing shows I submitted my music to a Music Supervisor and she was pitching my music to TV shows while I was living life as a performer. As soon as I figure out that you can make a great living as a Creative in the world of Licensing, I went all in and have been doing it ever since.

It’s been a little over six years now and I have some reds I am proud if:
– Head Composer for the Emmy Award-Winning Show “Born This Way”
– Head Composer for the docuseries “The Healer” on TLC
– Head Composer the Kim Kardashian West “Justice Project” documentary

I always felt incomplete for not going to school so during my downtime from the TV world, I earned the highest accreditation that Apple offers called “Apple Certified T# Logic Pro Trainer”. There is only a couple of us all over the world so I am happy about it.

Most recently, I opened a Music Academy for what I like to call “The Modern Creative”. These are individuals who want to write and monetize their music but the traditional model feels irrelevant. We are having lots of success and it is a lot fun. Check us out here: HFMusicacademy.com

Has it been a smooth road?
I chose to sleep very little for four years and it weighed heavy on my overall health. Had I not sacrificed all those years, I do not know if I would be where I am today…..it’s a paradox of sorts. I am working on sleep and health and exercising vigorously 3-4 times weekly these days.

I like the hustle and bustle and the accessibility of things to do…I have a distaste for the traffic and the “ghost” in this town who have flaky characteristics.
