Meet Ashlee Banxxs of Ashlee Banxxs & Brushes with Banxxs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Banxxs.

Ashlee McDaniel (Ashlee Banxxs) is a visual artist whose work emcompases painting, collage and photography. As an L.A native, her balance between city life and the great outdoors inspired her artistry, particularly her interest in science, society and sustainability. By up-cycling materials such as clothing, old art and packaging, Banxxs creates consumer conscious art that considers the ways humans and natural ecosystems interact.

Each work is inspired after motifs found in the natural world or its sensual experience. Banxxs’s work aims to illuminate climate change through a medium that can move us in a way that statistics cannot, it’s meant to make the invisible visible. Banxxs has exhibited her work in two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, CA.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a little bumpy along the way, there are obstacles that we face as women and it’s been helpful having a tribe of creative women that support one another. Having a circle of creative girlfriends that support you and uplift you is something we as a community should embrace.

Please tell us more about your art.
I am a visual artist with an interest in science and sustainability. I love learning about physics, sacred geometry and climate change, I draw inspiration in my findings and can present them in my work. In addition to being a fine artist, I started a brand 5 years ago called “Brushes with Banxxs” which was a traveling art event company in the greater Los Angeles area prior to the Safer At Home Indicative. I’ve currently taken Brushes with Banxx online where I can host virtual paint parties and youth painting events that use art to bring family, friends and peers together. I love connecting with individuals across the country and providing a creative outlet for them to partake in.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is one of the best places for creatives. You can find so much inspiration in our communities, every neighborhood has its own vibe. It’s almost impossible to not feel the essence of Los Anges, it’s what attracts so many people to this wonderful city. Art is widely accepted and promoted in Los Angeles, however, regardless of where you live it’s important that we use art to inspire, educate and uplift our communities.
