Meet John MF Davis of BHDT in Eastvale

Today we’d like to introduce you to John MF Davis.

John MF, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I played high school basketball on a high level and won a state championship my senior year. Once I graduated, I ended up at a juco, knowing I had the ability to play Division 1 ball. Depression hit, anxiety hit and I wanted to stop playing basketball. I stepped away from the game and needed to find a new hobby to distract myself but also be a release of creativity and emotions. I have a deep love for shoes and one day want to create my own, so I looked at who were the most popular sneaker designers currently and they worked in fashion so I figured this was the way to go. That was almost 2 and 1/2 years ago.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This is one of the toughest, most challenging but fun things I’ve done in my life. I’ve quit mentally a million times. I’ve told my friends that I’m done. When you take some L’s on big, promising projects hurts but it teaches you a lesson and nothing feels better than seeing someone wear your clothing. In the beginning, you realize who really is there for you and will support you no matter what you do. If you aren’t strong-minded and confident, it’s easy to find yourself in a deep hole. Thanks to God speaking to me and giving me inspiration in designs, I’ve made it through and saw some small successes and big potential.

Please tell us about BHDT.
BHDT is a streetwear brand. It stands for “Being Here Doing This”. The ideology behind it is to live in the moment. Go out, make memories and cherish them. Travel have fun, meet new people. Build connections, relationships and have faith and connection spiritually. There’s no better time and no better place for Being Here Doing This.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck. I have a great connection with God and believe that things happen for a reason. Everything is a lesson to learn or help teach someone else. As we go through life, we have the choice to make the right decision or the wrong decision. The more we make the right decision, life gets easier and we are rewarded.
