Today we’d like to introduce you to Harris Holland.
Harris, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a 17 years old producer. I started making beats when I was a freshman in high school. I am graduating this year and attending Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee to major in audio engineering in the fall. I have a variety of placements and released my personal producer album/tape on all platforms in February. Johnny Shipes flew me out to New York last year and I’ve been going crazier than ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Along the way, I struggled a lot with school and fitting in. I was always cool with everyone but never felt like I belonged to a group. I would make beats whenever I could at lunch, between classes, during class, etc. I spent my Friday nights in the studio and almost never went to parties. I have ADHD and always had trouble paying attention in class and doing my work. I was always behind in my classes and my parents were always on me about doing schoolwork before music. I specifically remember one night at dinner, my parents told me if I couldn’t keep my grades up, the music would have to go.
808SpinZ – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
808SpinZ is a record producer, engineer, and artist. I do more than just make beats, I like to be there for the whole process and work on the song start to finish. I mix and master many of the songs I do with artists, whereas many producers just make the beat and head out.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me personally would mean making a full-time career out of music. I am lucky to be at an age where I still have support from my parents and a little while to go before I need to be self-sufficient. My main goal is to put myself in a position where my beats and production are highly sought out. I want to turn 808SpinZ into a major name/brand and executively produce albums one on one with artists.
