Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Kahn.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About four years ago, I started noticing issues in my community that I wanted to help with, such as:
– Environmental concerns for earth, humans, and creatures
– A rapidly increasing homeless population
– An alarming number of pets in need of care and/or forever homes
I started participating in beach clean-ups, handing out care packages to homeless citizens, and caring for feral cats on my block. One of the cats became a dear friend to me and my family. We named him Figaro. Although he went missing a few years ago, he left a big impression on our hearts and helped me get a clear vision for my projects. I honestly attribute my cause to the love that Figaro showed me. Even though it took about six months of wooing him, my relationship with that kitty showed me that hard work and TLC can make a difference. It took a lot of time, energy, and money so I quickly realized that I needed to raise funds. I started selling my arts and crafts at local events and eventually moved on to a “for cause” OfferUp book store.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
1) Pretty early on, I realized that it’s nearly impossible to convince people to give donations when you’re not an official non-profit organization. Turning to book sales to raise funds has been challenging but effective to help my causes.
2) As a minor, I am limited on how much I can do alone. I therefore, have to depend on my family for help.
3) It is sometimes hard to decide which organizations to donate to because there are so many great ones in need.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eden’s Garden Projects – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Eden’s Garden Projects is made up of:
– Project HAND Prints (“it’s a small world after all”)
– Project FOOT Prints (“homeless, not hopeless”)
– Project PAW Prints (“opt to adopt”)
I raise awareness and funds for existing non-profit organizations that cater to these causes. I utilize social media to present options on how you can get involved and “be the change” you want to see. I am most proud that I run a grassroots project to help others. Even though I’m only ten years old, I do believe that I can make a difference in the world.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’d love to one day open a storefront for my book store and art “boo-tique”, called Roma Amor Official. Currently, I am selling via OfferUp, where 100% of profits benefit Eden’s Garden Projects. At that point, hopefully I’ll earn enough to acquire a legal non-profit status.
