Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Haley.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my journey as an acupuncturist as a patient. I started seeing an acupuncturist for some issues I never had any resolution with western medicine. It intrigued me that just after a few treatments, I saw significant progress. At the time, I had gone back to school to become a PA, so I was doing my pre-req’s. I started looking at acupuncture schools instead and realized that this was the right path for me. I enrolled at Yo San University, in Marina del Rey that same week, and the semester started the following. During my 4 years of grad school, I took all the internships available to me. I worked at the Yo San community clinic, specialty clinic of fertility, Pain specialty clinic, Venice Family Clinic in Santa Monica that specialized in pain management, and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in the chronic pain clinic. Working with the kids at CHLA was my most inspiring position, and has shaped me as a health care practitioner. I currently have a private practice, and practice in Los Angeles and Orange County.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Going back to school tests every part of you. It can be the most rewarding and the most challenging. For me, it tested everything from my dedication to medicine, to myself, to relationships, and brought about self- doubt along with absolute self-realization. The journey of becoming the practitioner I strived for gave me the strength I need to be able to care for my patients.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Katrina Haley LAc – what should we know?
As an acupuncturist, I practice Traditional Chinese Medicine. Which includes herbal medicine, nutrition, cupping therapy, Gua Sha, and Tui Na. Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the body as a whole. We do not treat symptoms individually but look at the root cause of the symptom.
While focusing on the root of the problem it gives the patient results that have a longer-term effect. I facilitate the body to heal itself by rebalancing it. By doing this it gives it the proper direction to what is weak and what needs the attention to heal.
I also practice cosmetic acupuncture which includes fine facial needling, electrical stimulation, and facial cupping which is to tone and tighten the muscle, along with promote natural production of elasticity and collagen.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Connecting with patients and listening to their concerns and long term health goals. Helping patients and giving them guidance and direction to achieve their goals. Whether it is being able to walk upstairs to being able to run a marathon, everyone has their own individual goals and there is no one size fits all. It is my job to customize treatment plans and herbal formulas to reach each patient’s goals.
